We all know that countries will be pulling their support. It's been a long war and they want their men and women back home. < :-)

adaydream: I second that, and in particular when the violence is not decreasing but INCREASING regardless of the increased presence of troops. Everyone's going to pull out -- even the US eventually, and Afghanistan will be like after the Russians pulled out, with a worse menace (or the Taliban) eventually taking over. Sad, but it seems to repeat itself. I hope the Afghan military and police can get things together and keep that from happening.

What Afghan military or police? Why just hope?

I can't believe the Canadian government is going to pander to public opinion like that when they've got to know that Afghanistan is so important. My respect for them just went down a notch.

I don't think Afghanistan is so very important to most countries. I think it is important primarily to the US even though the reasons for its importance are far from coherent.

Whether Canada will really withdraw its support or whether it is using the threat of withdrawal to win a less jingoistic trade policy is another matter.
