As a Cdn living in Cdn. That was really a shocker I have to admit. Cdns are still shaken up over this one. We have never heard of anything as crazy as this incident.
Yes I immediately thought of the few knifing incidents, recently in Japan, but then we had a 16 year old kill a man, with a knife, in a park, not to far from my home town------so really one cannot point a finger at Japan.

I notice that the bystanders are not of much help when an lunatic with a knife goes on a rampage.

True WilliB the passengers did next to nil in this matter. ALL they wanted was to get out alive. Mind your credit has to go to the bus driver, an unknowen truck driver, & one passenger that barred the killer out of the normal door what with a crow-bar, hammer & something else.
By the time the RCMP arrived said killer had to smash open a window & jump out, but that is when the RCMP took him down.
Amazing situation that no Cdn let alone any human wants to hear or read about as the victem was well liked, easy to get along with, & half asleep, or asleep, at the time---just another bus passenger!!!!!

Smythe:
But isn´t that the frequent complaint around here? That the Japanese bystanders to nothing against the knife-wielding lunatic? Typically followed by announcements of our fellow posters how heroic they would have acted? Just wanted to point that out...

unfortunately all this represents is just another sheep being removed from the herd. he felt safe enough apparently to fall asleep on a bus with nothing but strangers around him. he simply became the killer's easiest target.
it doesn't matter where you live, bad people intending to do harm will do bad things. this will keep happening until people wake up and realize they can't depend on others for their safety and protection.
