well , just stop buying the chinese junk, polluting our planet... Put very heavy taxes on anything coming of there, until they reduce their output to the agreed levels. Drive them back to the stone age if they don't start to make an effort by themselves. . It is unthinkable that china produces more CO2 than USA, India and Russia combined, and more than 5 times more than Japan.

Does that figure including human breathing.

If so, perhaps the advocates of carbon reduction should refrain from contributing.

Of the planet’s top 10 polluters, the United States and Germany were the only countries that reduced their carbon dioxide emissions.

Nice to see Germany being able to both actively phase out nuclear and decrease CO2 at the same time.

Interesting logic. You suggest we drive China back to the stone age but per capita emissions in the US and many other countries are much higher than in China.

It is unthinkable that china produces more CO2 than USA, India and Russia combined, and more than 5 times more than Japan.

I would say its unthinkable that per capita emissions in primarily service based economies such as the US are twice as high as a country which is currently the workshop of the world.

China, while definitely not an 'environmentally friendly' country, is actually not emitting very much CO2 per capita which is a much more fair measurement. If china were to start to emit the same amount of C02 per capita as the US, it would dwarf the rest of the world, same goes for India I think.

Zichi,

So with all but two reactors shut down, Japan's CO2 emissions only increased by 0.4%,a figure which can be reduced once renewable energies are playing a bigger part.

Just to beat the special interest engineers to the punch. The reactors were being phased out over 2011, with a few running into the first quarter of 2012, I think. What you say is still holds true, but the 2012 numbers will probably be somewhat higher than 0.4%.. Still, phasing out nuclear which produced 25-30 percent of electricity with such minimal effects to CO2 emissions is encouraging to say the least.

What can Iran realistically do to reduce its carbon output?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

" The overwhelming majority of the increase was from China, the world’s biggest carbon dioxide polluter." Gross, true. But not per capita, though that figure is increasing. Reduce global population to pre-industrial era numbers. Start with volunteers.

China should help the world by making more green technology ASAP!!

Elbuda, you are aware that China produces a huge amount of "green" tech in their ungreen factories, aren't you?

What a load of baloney. Anthropogenic global warming is a myth. Climate change is natural, and there is no reason to panic. The Earth has survived for millenia and it will continue to do so, until the End comes. Puny human beings have nothing to do with it.

Co2 is good, and necessary for the survival of the planet. We all produce it daily. Trees and plants live on it. No need to panic. We should produce more Co2, not less

Stop spreading your religion, thanks.

You're right the Earth will survive, but we puny humans will die.
