Like it or not, Hamas is the legitimately elected government of Palestine. If the U.S. is to pay more than lip service to the concept of supporting democratically elected governments, that's who they have to talk to.

by why should they talk to a organization whose stated goal is the destruction of israel?

that's who they have to talk to." That really means who they have to fight because that is what Hamas wants. They have honor in their causes.

by why should they talk to an organization whose goal is the destruction of Palestine?" YOu know what, I think this talking thing isn't going to work out, so why don't they all just fight to the finish and when the dust clears, the last people standing can decide to either fight more or just call it a day. This is what Hamas wants! So brave of them.

Sigh.... we all know how you want the ENTIRE Muslim population of the world dead, skippy, but much like the result of the election (where Hamas won, and much to the chagrin of the US government), it the 'last people' standing are Muslim, you'll suddenly change your opinion and say it's not fair.

Carter is 100% in the right, here.... it's necessary to appeal to ALL parties in the midst of seeking out agreement and/or ending conflict. Heaven forbid! a man who wants peace instead of a president who wants to be known as the 'war president' (and only listens to one side).

“We must not negotiate with a terrorist group intent on Israel’s destruction,” Obama said.

Geez. Even Barack Obama recognizes what a tool Carter is for the Islamofacists.

Carter is 100% in the right here. Israel has a long history of ignoring UNSC resolutions, protecting even basic human rights, respecting any treaties it signs with the Palestinians, ans willfully targets innocent civilians; women, children, ambulances and the press. See: http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/6461 And, no, I don't support firing rockets into Israel. Nor am I anti-semitic, an enemy of Jewish people or a Nazi. It's the truth. Radical Islam is caused by radical Zionism. Carter is 100% right to speak with Hamas.

"Carter is 100% in the right here."

    Whatever.

80 % of Gazans want to emigrate. And Iran-backed Hamas is to blame.

If Carter is right why is Obama parroting Bush? And if he is parroting Bush why do Hamas seem so fond of him? Could it be that they recognize that just as Carter was the best thing to ever happen to militant, theocratic Iran, Obama will be the second best.

"During an interview on WABC radio Sunday, top Hamas political adviser Ahmed Yousef said the terrorist group supports Obama’s foreign policy vision.

“We don’t mind–actually we like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance,” Yousef said in response to a question about the group’s willingness to meet with either of the Democratic presidential candidates.

    (Full interview)

For his part, Obama criticized former President Jimmy Carter’s decision to meet with Hamas, telling Jewish leaders Wednesday that “Hamas is not a state, Hamas is a terrorist organization.”

“We must not negotiate with a terrorist group intent on Israel’s destruction,” Obama said. “We should only sit down with Hamas if they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel’s right to exist, and abide by past agreements.”

You need to get of the idea that poor = innocense and come to reality that Hamas does not want peace even the people who voted for them lately are saying they had hoped Hamas would cleanse the Palestinian government of corruption as Arafat is accused by his own as being currupt and get into talks with Israel. Can you imagine the backlash Hamas would receive from their supports in other countries if they did seek out peace and live side by side with Jews who for the most part don't have that much of an issue with.

You complain if the US gets involved in another country's business, yet here you are waving flags for Carter, a US rep getting involved in another country's internal affairs.. Radical Islam is caused by radical Zionism" So how do you explain thing that happened before Zionism existed?

  • 0

    Helter_Skelter

Radical Islam is caused by radical Zionism.

What utter garbage. Radical Islam is caused by the unholy Koran and the Imams who relentlessly preach violence, hatred, and intolerance of the Infidel. Try reading it sometime, you might learn something.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the world’s major sources of instability. Americans are directly connected to this conflict, and increasingly imperiled by its devastation. Not to mention being bled dry. "Radical Islam is caused by the unholy Koran and the Imams who relentlessly preach violence, hatred, and intolerance of the Infidel. Try reading it sometime, you might learn something." Really? (I have a copy of the Koran, and yes it is full of war imagery, as is the Old Testament/Torah.) Radical anything, both Zionism and Islam, can twist this for their own purposes. But of course, Judaism and Zionism is full of peace, joy and loving kindness to all, yes? Like this collection of good wishes the Israelis have for the Palestinians... http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/palestinians.html Read them ALL. Then tell me why talking to Hamas isn't better than bombs and bullets. Moderator: Readers, please stay on topic. Your posts should refer to Carter.

Then tell me why talking to Hamas isn't better than bombs and bullets.

Because what Carter and the rest of the Islamist-apologists don't recognize is that there are two groups you never negotiate with: Nazis and Islamofacists. They have a long and well documented history of collaboration and cooperation. We tried negotiations with the former, who were also elected, and the result was catastrophic. History now repeats itself with Hamas. Certainly you'd agree we don't want to make this foolish mistake twice.

Moderator: References to Nazis are not relevant to this discussion.

Like this collection of good wishes the Israelis have for the Palestinians..

Why in the world would Israelis have good wishes for Muslim Arabs who want nothing more than to eradicate Israel in order to complete their ethnic cleansing of the Middle East of the "Infidel Jew"? Get real.

What will Carter do once they do remove Israel? Because it is going to eventually happen.

Way to go Mr Carter, your moderating visionary ways is what, that is needed for peace in Palestine/Israel.

The occupation of Palestine by Israel is not the act of a few Israeli Jews. It is not even the act of the military establishment alone. It is the collective act of a morally desensitized society that has nearly lost its humanity and succumbed to a collective psychosis that is not unlike the moral blindness that struck the German people more than sixty years ago."

What are you trying to say here? Again, people like you have put the ENTIRE blame on Jews for this issue. Israel can move back from those borders if they are guarantee peace! At one point in time, there was land there of the Jews that they were kicked out of..

succumbed to a collective psychosis that is not unlike the moral blindness that struck the German people more than sixty years ago." Ok, so tell us this, is this an issue of Palestine or Islam vs Jews? If so, why have Jews been running scared of Muslims for centuries?

Sorry for the upper case font, I can't get colors to work. I'm not shouting, just trying to add comments to the original.

"The meetings with Hamas, which Washington considers a terror organization, (THE INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT IN THE FLEDGLING USA WAS ALSO CONSIDERED A TERRORIST MOVEMENT. AND JUST BECAUSE WASHINGTON SAYS A, B, OR C GROUP IS A TERRORIST DOESN'T MAKE IT SO. WASHINGTON IS SUPPORTING COUNTLESS TERRORISTS AROUND THE WORLD WHO ARE ATTACKING LEGITIMATE GOVERNMENTS, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO THINK BUSH IS A MORON. CHAVEZ FOR EXAMPLE.) have drawn sharp criticism from Israeli and U.S. officials.

But Carter strongly defended the need to reach out to Hamas, which won Palestinian parliament elections in 2006. (AMERICA CANNOT BE SELECTIVE WHEN RESPECTING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. THE PALESTINIAN ELECTIONS PROBABLY WERE MORE LEGITIMATE THAN THE LAST 2 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS.)

“You can’t have an agreement that must involve certain parties, unless you talk to those parties to conclude the agreement,” Carter said in a speech Thursday at the American University in Cairo. “You have to involve Hamas ... They have to be involved in some way.” (BETTER TO HAVE THEM TALKING THAN SHOOTING)

He said that although “there is very strict restraint or prohibition” against any U.S. or Israel official speaking with Hamas ... I know there are some officials in the Israeli government who are quite willing to meet with Hamas and maybe that will happen in the near future.” (EVENTUALLY, TALKING IS BETTER THAN SHOOTING.)

Carter said he had requested from the Hamas leaders that they stop rocket attacks into Israel from Gaza, which have prompted deadly Israeli military assaults on the crowded Mediterranean coastal territory. Any “killings of civilians is an act of terrorism,” he said." (CAN'T GET ANY CLEARER THAN THAT.)

And, sorry Moderator-sama, as I sign off I must add: Zionists collaborated with Hitler to exterminate undesireable Jews in Europe, so the establishment of the so-called state of israel would be populated by only true-blue-blooded Jews. I rest my case, your honor.

Mr Jimmy Carter, we the southern gent served as President of the United States, he refused to me with the PLO. But now that he's in the wilderness its perfectly acceptable for America to conduct negotiations with a terrorist organization. He's a private individual now and can talk and do what ever he likes. But what he can not do is speak as if he represents a nation or nations. The man has no political mandate, simple. Jimmy wants to sale his personality, people play this game all the time. Mr Jimmy please go home. Israel did not invite you nor did my people ask for your assistence.
