I'm sure that right after Chavez finishes killing off a few more of his political opponents that he would be happy to sit down and communicate with Obama.

“To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.”
I think this sums it all up.

How about the we start with a policy to decrease our dependence on Venezuelan oil, which has given a voice to this otherwise third-world tin-pot dictator.

Perhaps the economic crisis will allow a shift in Latin American policies that allows them to further reduce the United States' influence in the region and reach a level of equality, not the "Big Brother" approach that has benefited no one (except a string of dictators and guerrillas financed by the United States in the 60s to 80s, invasions and military interventions). If Latin America successfully manages her markets with Europe, India, China and Russia, maybe the economies will become stronger out of a better balance. Perhaps the global recession will give Latin American countries the momentum to consolidate itself as an independent market and lessen dependency on the United States as a client.

Chavez's challenge is kind of like challenging the sun to rise from the east. Is there any doubt that Obama's policy toward SA will differ from Bush's? Of course Venesuala is a whole other story.

The US's history of "terror regime" support in South America is nothing short of sickening.
Any David who stands up to the Goliath is deemed a terrorist.
How weak!

I just laugh at Chavez these days, begging his "enemy" to buy his oil.
