Well, well, well! Cheney really IS up to no good, both abroad AND grooming his successor to follow his evil ways! http://www.laprogressive.com/2008/09/05/alaskans-speak-in-a-frightened-whisper-palin-is-%E2%80%9Cracist-sexist-vindictive-and-mean%E2%80%9D/#more-954
Russia has no threats to the west it was the expansion of NATO that was the true threat! The Bush/Cheney has sponsered those social chaos in former soviet union republics..backing those unpopular candidates like Yushenko in Ukraine and the greed of stealing energy...the west will pay a dear price for this.
Caveman: You're kidding, right? Cheney would have sided with the British -- they had the money. If he could have sold them more advanced weaponry and kept the war going, he would have profited nearly as much as he has now!
Cheney: "I URGE you to unite and fight this Russian 'threat'... (quieter), oh, and did I give you these Haliburton brochures and advanced weaponry manuals? I'm going to over to live in Dubai once this gig is over, so you can contact me directly for assistance..."

Well done, liberatas. Linking to an article about Palin on a thread about the Ukraine.
I like how every single person quoted in your hit piece could not give their name - for fear of, of, of, retribution!
But of course. It's been a massacre these last 7 years...

I was being facetious about Cheney understanding anything or caring about a chief American principle: self-determination. Your analysis of how Cheney would have operated during the American Revolution is totally on the money (excuse the pun!)
Russian equities have lost one third of their value in the last two months.
"...Investors in Russia pulled out a net $4.6 billion since the invasion of Georgia last month, according to the central bank, contributing to the worst quarterly slump in stocks since the government's debt default a decade ago..."
But - Nicaragua now officially recognizes South Ossetia is part of Russia!

Doesn't matter. Nobody other than Ankara has ever recognized the Turkish held part of Cyprus and the Turks have shown no signs of packing up, in effect making their occupation the status quo.
Now the Russians are claiming "R2P" as the rationale for their invasion of Georgia. "Responsibility to Protect" is, of course, intended to justify international action not unilateral behavior. It was articulated in response to what happened in Cambodia in the 1970s and then Rwanda in the 1990s (which is more representative of genocide as carried out through ethnic cleansing).
In short, if you can't protect your own people from wholesale slaughter the world can come in and do it. That's why the Russians emphasized the death of ethnic Russian civilians, and there were some, at the hands of the Georgian military. What they haven't addressed is the proportionality of their response.....
sargie: "Apparently smithinjapan, LIBERTAS, Cirroc and reddragonguy disagree with Cheney here."
you mean, just about everyone. And I notice you quoted only his crap and lies about 'freedumb' etc., and not his proclamations that Russia is a 'threat', etc., and that he's making heaps of money off defense contracts. Stick to the dying sport of Sumo, sarge; that seems to be the only thing you have a sense of what's true in.
We believe in the right of men and women to live without the threat of tyranny, economic blackmail or military invasion or intimidation.
If Cheney believed the military invasion bit he would have supported Russia right up to the borders of S. Ossetia. The Georgians invaded first. Remember? I know its darn inconvenient in your rush to take the side your government took, and just because your government took it. But the Georgians launched the first military invasion this round. Hang on to that.
The Russian threat was increased and prodded by george bush and their persuasion of Georgia to do something stupid.
I hear the right complaining about the Liberal News Media. But the Liberal News Media has forgotten, immediately, that Georgia started this when Georgia went into South Ossetia.
Georgia was foolish enough to believe that the United States had the military might to stop Russia when we're fighting two wars. What dumbasses. < :-)
Bush/Cheney is outgoing...they have no cards can gamble! They are the weakest leaders on earth, sure you wont see them send B2 bombers to attack Moscow! The neocons were unpopular and their little show has come to an end!
