BIg City police sure have a long way to go to restore our trust.

They have my trust. Just as in all professions not all do a good job and fewer a stellar job. And just as in all professions the bums need to be purged the police union limits that.

A scapegoat for Emauel and does nothing to help the community.

Chicago is a violent city and the police there have a difficult job to do. Nothing makes me feel more relieved than to see a couple of Chicago's finest whiz by me on bicycles on patrol as I walk along the lakefront on a Friday night. For the most part, they do an outstanding job.

Unfortunately the main stream media would have you believe they are bloodthirsty killers or you non black stormcrow because we all know they target blacks with violence. Again the MSM said so. It must be true.

Yeah I'm sick of Fox "news" too. Damn mainstream media.

Quote: "The audio-free video shows McDonald walking down the middle of a four-lane street. He appears to veer away from two officers as they emerge from a vehicle, drawing their guns."

Nightmare scenario. Why would someone be walking down the middle of a four-lane street toward a squad car? Is he super-human? No fear? What is he holding in his right hand? Why does he not stop, why ignore warnings? Will he run? What will he do next?

Maybe they really were afraid to get into a close-quarters situation. A fusillade seems way OTT however. Is there no rule of say single, non-lethal shot to the legs, to take a guy down?

If US police are targeting blacks with attacks then US law enforcement must be trying to exterminate white people. 10 times more white people are killed by police than black people. crickets from the US media

LA is violent too. I'd say for the most part they do an outstanding job too.

This cop had, though, had a few racially motivated complaints on his record from previous encounters during his career. Shooting a teenager 16 times is outrageous. Doesn't look good for that officer. I'm surprised the judge set his bail.

Citation?

Examine where homicide rates are changing dramatically, our large cities. Note they have been increasing rapidly see, for example,

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/07/09/us-cities-homicide-surge-2015/29879091/

And then understand that liberals have been in charge of most of those cities for decades. Seems to me the electorate has been getting exactly the quality of governance (and the results) they deserve.

MarkG: Of course they have your trust! You're probably white.

I want this officer back off his bail and in the general populace, with blacks. See how he does without his gun to shoot someone SIXTEEN TIMES.

Window dressing. Much deeper culture change is also needed. Let's hope they get to that.

This is not enough, not nearly enough. The entire political structure in Chicago is totally corrupt and must be disassembled from top to bottom. America with various cameras is finally seeing all of the oversights and brutality that the law enforcement agencies has dealt out to their citizens. America tells the world that it is a free country, a country with fair laws and respect for people of all colors etc. but the reality is completely the opposite and a lie that is fed out via the government controlled media to pacify the general population to ingest during their daily couch potato rituals.

I don't understand why exactly the police chief was fired. What exactly did he do?

I am left to believe he fulfilled his promise to "get the cops's backs" and went way overboard in attempting to get this murdering psycho cop off the hook.

As ever, I am still amazed that anyone can attempt to defend American police in general. I am amazed when they try to find ways to absolve cops in individual cases of outrageous brutality and overbearningness, citing their "hard job" etc. I can't even imagine any country where half these cops that get no charges or get acquitted would happen except America. Well, no country that isn't third world anyway. You can go all the way back to the MLK marches for fine examples of outrageous behavior by American cops. It hasn't stopped. They think nothing of storming a quiet house, breaking windows, tossing in flash bangs and smoke bombs, and then when some confused deafened and blinded grandmother lurches forth they fire shots. And when the shots kill a little girl, they say "Ooops! Wrong address!" and get away scot free. Her name was Aiyana Jones. She was 7. The trials ended in mistrials.

America does not have police anymore. They have a para-military brute squad. Some people are working overtime to not see that reality.

Rahm wanted his second term in office and was willing to hide the evidence until after the election

The police don't target any group of people other than those who ignore and disrespect the badge.

When I was young it was well known if you resist arrest you get beat up. If you were sarcastic you get rough handled or hit. Today many of the fringe of society types are completely disrespectful and will spit, punch and kick police officers. What options do police have at that point?

Also in retrospect it easy to critisize the actions of police. Put yourself in their shoes at the scene with little or no information of a response call. They need to protect the community along with themselves.

Seems it's kinda like a sports team that's looking to change the locker-room environment - ya can't just fire a bunch of players, so what's the quickest way to make such change? Ya fire the head coach.

And so, it's the chief of police that had to be axed.

Wc626,

"LA is violent too."

Yeah, I hear ya'. I got lost in East LA my first time in LA one night. It seemed like a really tough area.

As for the Chicago police, I was just saying that they shouldn't be judged because of one or even a few bad apples. I agree that the way Laquan McDonald was shot was wrong and completely uncalled for. It was indeed tragic.

@stormcrow. East LA is plagued with latino gangs. They'd prob mess with other latinos or blacks a whole lot more, rather than a lost innocent guy like yourself. . . . but you never know. And never want to take chances.

Even some LAPD units are afraid of patrolling certain beats. Even some of the LAPD Officers who are latino themselves.

So, a white cop kills a black kid and the police chief is fired. But that same police chief was doing a stellar job when 15 black kids are killed by 15 black kids in Chicago every week?

Apparently, up there black lives matter only when a black is killed by a white.

Well, buddy. Good luck with that. They ain't going nowhere, thank God for that otherwise, we really would be in the dark.

No doubt and add to that, this video just surfaced recently, it was bad and I think the the cop should have been fired, but the police chief? Oh, wasn't there a reelection campaign last week and wasn't Emanuel reelected again? Ironic that this chief would get fired and the video would come out at around the same time. Something smells, but we ARE talking about Rahm, Chicago politics and who did Emanuel work for before he became mayor of that city and who is his best friend again? You guessed it. Why on Earth is anyone surprised at this.
