Always hope that others will be found alive.

So, they lost contact with their son. Was their son so addicted to his cell phone that he used it while fighting a chemical fire with water? I doubt it! Water that reacted with the chemicals? Were these firemen so uninformed about the area and how to possibly fight a fire that might have sodium strips available waiting to be soaked in water and explode? Shame on the so called advanced middle kingdom. You lost some more lives again. I hope you apologize this time around to the families, as you still have not done so for the cultural revolution when you killed your educated and intellectuals because they did not know how to grow rice.

The air had a metallic chemical smell, and there was fear that rains mixed the chemicals could set off more explosions.

Um... Like having bomb shells waiting to explode any moment. I magine they were bewildered, and afraid.

The firefighters didn't know; otherwise, they would had not used water. The government likely kept which chemicals present a secret, even though it doesn't really qualify as a state secret for national interest. And unfortunately, that feeling to be ultra secrecy cost the lives of their people.

Wow, nice job of turning a tragedy into an unrelated politically commentary.

The disaster has raised questions about whether dangerous chemicals were being stored too close to residential compounds, and if poor decisions unnecessarily sent firefighters into the harm’s way.

Shouldn't this read "the disaster answered questions..."?

Thank you Stranger. Sometimes this is the only legitimate way to get around wanton censorship and I am sure you get that. I see your wonderful thoughts sometimes go pufffffff

I hope all the FIREMEN and CIVILIANS lost for now get found safe and possibly hidden in secret pockets of air. Gambarerereer ne

My prayers and thoughts are with the families of the deceased, the wounded and those who have been made homeless. May the widow and orphan find comfort. May the firefighters stay safe in their efforts to extinguish he fire.

MyTimeIsYourTime: " I hope you apologize this time around to the families, as you still have not done so for the cultural revolution when you killed your educated and intellectuals because they did not know how to grow rice."

100% off-topic, extremely insensitive, and just plain out misdirected anger directed towards those who justifiably want apologies for other reasons. Well done on undermining your credibility!

"I hope all the FIREMEN and CIVILIANS lost for now get found safe and possibly hidden in secret pockets of air"

Sure you do! Only a second ago you were blasting them for being addicted to cell phones and slamming the families. Feel a little guilty, perhaps?

In any case, you had to know, with those explosions and the number of missing, that the death toll will mount. You also have to know that heads are going to roll, and knowing the Chinese government's unwillingness to take the blame when it is due, the CEOs of this company had better hope they are somewhere else and haven't been caught yet. They're going to take the full blame for this, despite at the very least local government being in cahoots with the lack of rule enforcement and safety measures, and I have no doubt given the gravity of the situation that means execution and the government saying that's the end of it.

@smithinjapan

the CEOs of this company had better hope they are somewhere else and haven't been caught yet.

Six senior members of Ruihai Logistics, the company that runs the hazardous materials warehouse, were arrested as of 3 days ago. Apparently the company was just established in 2011. Setting up shop and becoming a major transportation hub for tons and tons of explosives and toxic chemicals in just 4 years? Yeah, pretty sure corners were cut and some people who aren't anywhere near experienced enough are employed in the materials handling process.
