The Chinese are trying to prevent the dissemination of information relating to the effects of lay-offs in the wake of declining US demand for their products. Social instability has resulted and they don't want to encourage more by enabling their own nationals to read about it. Isolated, localized protests they can deal with; but not a nationalized movement.
In some sense the Chinese industrial revolution was a mirage, just like the American real estate bubble, albeit for different reasons. Wal-Mart moved its sourcing operations to China where it could buy anything American consumers would want at the lowest possible price. But we got what we paid for as evidenced by children's toys containing lead paint, poisoned pet food, etc. Hopefully each side has learned some lessons as both economies slow.
