I suspect the talks will go like this. China says "you listen to me you little rut, if you do anything more to disrupt the peace of the Olympic games we will take it quietly, and when the games are over and the world's focus has shifted, we will start a crack down in Tibet the likes you have never seen. We will imprison and execute your mothers, daughters, brothers, sisters and any one remotely related you. Talks over

Talks? Before Olympics 'hikiwake'- After Olympics 'shiai shuryo'- Dalai Lama 'intai'. This is how Tibet issue will be resolved peacefully. Anything bad? no, Tibet will prosper and so will Tibetan culture.
Also, The Dalai Lama will earn all the respect outside China.
TonyUS at 03:39 PM JST - 5th May
Again the pressures from outside forces and all just a farce by the leaders of China as to pretend to take actions to please the outside but actually just playing the game as ussual as they have since trying to interact with the outside..
So funny the people of China are so damn blind to the facts and do not have the ability to stand up for right instead of the wrongs practiced by the communist leadership//
And the soga continues as well as the silence of the Chinese people. What a pitty!

"talks end after one day"...that was for first round. Second round is scheduled for 130th day after today... Oh,forget it,Olympic, paralympic are all over..CCP will not care to remember anymore.
OssanULTRA at 09:23 PM JST - 5th May
Obviously China has no intention of giving any concessions to start with. There's no reason for them to do so beyong getting past the Nazi Olympics, so this "talk" is to ensure that ther EU do not vote with Sargozy. Hu himself is doing Pandsa diplomacy in Japan. Looks like keeping the Olympics from becoming a complete failure image wise is, understandably, China's top priority. As others hae pointed out, let's see what happens after the games are over. JT ought to run a poll called "How many years will it be for the IOC to choose a Chinese city again".
smithinjapan at 09:51 PM JST - 5th May
The IOC must have kicked themselves at least a few times for passing Toronto over for Beijing; but hey, they already spent the bribe money... so what are you going to do?
As for the Chinese government, this is obviously just playing it up -- the 'talks' with the Dalai Lama (envoys) were NEVER intended to be serious, and the Chinese government's attempts to look politick are a joke, as is said government in general.

you people can comment all you want, It isn't going to change anything. The sun still rise tomorrow, Tibet will be nothing but a wasteland and the Dalai Lama will be nothing but a man without a country. China doesn't care what the world thinks, people in China doesn't care about what the world thinks. By further commenting you are only demonstrating your ineffectiveness and helplessness to change anything, it only demonstrate the same stupidity and moronic nature of the Bush Administration and its subordinate puppets in the world...............so two words, "shut" "up"
OssanULTRA at 02:59 AM JST - 6th May
"China doesn't care what the world thinks,"
I disagree. The CCP leadership while rough and inflexible aren't stupid. The changes in policies implemented since Deng Shao Ping have brought China to the forefront of thje major developed countries. Suchj progress doesn't occur with a complete disregard for other nations views and positions.
"people in China doesn't care about what the world thinks."
I agree. State run Chinese media controls what they are allowed to see and hear.
tclh at 05:45 AM JST - 6th May
Tippy Tim's "shut up" is not a good idea. When people shut up ,stop talking;violence struggle will follow. If China and Chinese people continue to ignore the world's "talk for peace" attitude;the world will now realise that what sort of country they are dealing with and start more effective struggle, violence included.
TonyUS at 01:10 PM JST - 7th May
The blindness is those that support the control over another. This is wrong and even a blind man can see that, if nationalism and brainwashing from censorship does not stand between or infront of truth and morals. This is exactly what has happened with the mind set of many people becasue of the strict controlled news media and censoring of news outlets within China and these are not fabricated statements, but is fact!
One only knows what one is able to learn. One only learns from information they have access to.. We all know what that meeans when it comes to China.
TonyUS at 12:51 PM JST - 16th May
Wow.. what is the truth is that China does care what the world thinks because it is the outside pressures that has brought what change has come about in China and the other truth is China does not care what the chinese people thinks for damn sure as we see them making sure the people of China are kept silent by all means possible. That is the reality of the CCP!
