China executes more people than any other country --around /4,000/ people a year.

That's about 11 per diem.

Now 12 is one more than 11, so I guess that's a statistical deviation from average. But who knows what the mean is. Still, I think the significance is that it was announced since most execution statistics are not public domain information and thus unpublished.

Still 4,000/year is not the highest rate per capita. I think that distinction belongs to Iran.

Chinese govt made and making good money by selling the internal organs of those executed. There is an agency in Singapore selling the kidney of those from China. As many other products those are competetively cheaper than an donor. This way China help the world.... The real number of executed are 10 times more than the official data...

Well, China again steps up to the human rights abuse plate with the same vigor as in past years. Thank you China for reminding us that barbarism is alive and well in the world. State murder is no less murder than when and individual kills. It places blood on the hands of society and sends a strong message that violence is a solution to problems.

Sadly China is not alone in this inhumane madness.

More countries, including the USA, need to accept the idea that prisons were developed as rehabilitation centers. If the convicted person can be rehabilitated and returned to society as a productive citizen, the the cost is worth it. If the convicted has committed a heinous crime, then the price has to be execution. IT IS NOT REVENGE. It is justice. The cost for a person on Death Row in California is 5500000 yen per year and the tuition cost to a private university is 5000000 yen per year. WHAT CAN SOCIETY REALLY DO FOR ITS CITIZENS?

Where I come from crime and punishment and military action are different issues. But I guess you would not have a point if you didn't inject confusion into the issue.

That's true. Among other things, imprisoning people for relatively minor drug offenses contributes to the high rate in the US --that and sentence length. An antagonistic approach to illicit drug control has resulted in no appreciable improvement in quality of life. It's time a new approach was taken but I doubt that would make any sense in the more viable political circles. Not many politicians want to risk looking "soft". Some are willing, but not many; so it goes.

Interesting contrast with the other story about Japan not having executed a single prisoner this year. While I would welcome more proper debate in Japan, at least there seem to be more doubts creeping in. A stark difference to China, where the attitude is to 'process' people as soon as possible, perhaps before any complicating evidence or other factors come to light. Similar to the reaction to that bullet train accident, where the crash scene forensics were done with a mechanical shovel.

bigwigs comes in all shades, some capitalist bigwigs need the organ too and they can certainly afford them.
