    Well, which was it?

    The headline says: 'demands'.

    Line 1 says: 'asks'.

If I was the Chinese government I know which one I would respect more.

This letter of protest comes at the same time that dissident LEADERS in China are being placed u nder hOUSE ARREST. Tiananmen Mothers group leader , Ding Zilin, and her husband, Jiang Peikun, disappeared from their Beijing home Thursday (Oct 14) (The Tiananmen Mothers are among the most outspoken critics of Communist Party rule).

Outspoken author and religious activist Yu Jie also has been placed under effective house arrest . The squeezing of dissidents is connected to the annual meeting of the China Communist Central Committee, which starts this Friday. The party’s leadership is nervous about mushrooming protests . AND, there is polarization within - - as there are strong voices that want to see some reform in the country’s repressive political system.

Sounds like we're heading for another Tiananman Square. I hope not, but I doubt China's going to budge. The question is if those who want political reform will back down.

It will be wise for them (dissidents) to back down and take advantage of China's growing power. Perhaps they never knew China will progress so fast and become so strong in all most all respects (except human rights?)

It's exactly because of China's growing power that it's disregard for human rights need to be changed.

More political prisoners coming up. So how the hell can anyone defend the Chinese government? Nothing has changed since Tiananmen and yet we continue to send business to China. Are people so stupid or short sighted or maybe both?
