China officially starts two child policy.
Around 25 years ago while I was waiting in line at a supermarket, I read a headline in the National Enquirer that claimed China would run out of women in the year 2020 and their plan was to invade America to steal its women. I thought it was funny at the time but I guess there was a grain of true to the story.

The policy created an unintended labor nightmare for Chinese conpanies. The one-child kids are now in the workforce, but will walk away from a job over the smallest issue. Supervisors can't even tell people how to do something correctly.
Since they're an only child, their grandparents and parents will give them more money to live than any job will pay them.
It created a generation of lazy, spoiled brats at a time when China needs motivated professionals in engineeering, medicine and other disciplines.

Oddly enough, Japan, which had no such policy, is facing very similar issues.

Most Chinese people say they can't afford to have two or more children because more money is necessary for children. Everything seems too late for new policy.

People you may have more children.... If you willing to have them grow up in predetermined world with totally limited options and work like slaves, (not just China)
A precursor to the labs of to 1984 George Orwells incubation labs, one would presume.

Has the one-child policy lasted long enough to make the desired demographic impact? Will 2-child policy still favour boys over girls anyway? This seems to be more the reaction of so many children dying in accidents and flimsy buildings

This could be a big problem. Despite its faults, the one child policy helped to control the rate of growth of China's huge population. Yes, the policy created problems, but it also kept China from becoming a country with 3 billion hungry people. If the policy gets lifted and if China's population growth rate grows an even small amount, then China's 1.6 billion population could double in 50 years. China is already the world's biggest polluter.
