What is next?

Funny you should ask. Christmas was the target this year in several cities.

Freedom of religion is a basic tenet of human rights. I find it strange that the left wingers on this site who can't shut up for a moment about things like the rights of the vagina kayak lady, will be crickets about millions of people being prohibited by law from quietly observing their religion. I guess we only need to care about the subset of human rights that leftists think are important.

"people are allowed to practice religion at sanctioned institutions that are required to preach and practice loyalty to the government."

Good grief...

It's pretty obvious that China's leaders are still terrified of a resurgence of the "Taiping heavenly kingdom" that nearly wrecked the country in the mid-19th century.

From Wiki: With no reliable census at the time, estimates are necessarily based on projections, but the most widely cited sources put the total number of deaths during the 15 years of the rebellion at about 20–30 million civilians and soldiers. Most of the deaths were attributed to plague and famine. At the Third Battle of Nanjing in 1864, more than 100,000 were killed in three days.

Hell, I'm an Atheist and I find this sort of government oppressive interference in religious folks right to follow their beliefs completely insane.

I may disagree with your beliefs and find them willy, but I would never stop you.

That is the difference between a Democracy and a repressive Authoritarian/Totalitarian Communist regime. At least a Democracy allows you to believe whatever the heck you want to believe, while Communist drive their boots against your necks and force you to believe what they want you to believe!

Communist are the worst!

China: Ancient culture. Fascinating history. Merciless government.

The CCP at it again under the belief that they can completely control the hearts and minds of their people. Its ok though, because death is guaranteed to happen eventually to every single human being in this world including the folks in the CCP. And they'd better hope there is no afterlife because I'm pretty sure there will be a lot to answer too. Every religious belief has a judgment after death based on the deeds done in life...
