While the settlements issue is certainly an obstacle, it is the situation with Hamas that is the main obstacle. Did the Persian Gulf ministers manage to say anything about that?

Arabs need to chill a bit and remember that if they are going to blame anyone it should be out of power repubs. Barack kissed the ring of Saudi Arabian King Abdullah.Okay.I mean hellooooo - we are talking about the custodian of Mecca, the holiest site in the Arab lands. The President is down with the Palestinians and their cause.

No, the "main obstacle" is that the entire islamic world does not accept the existance of the Jewish state. And while the Arab sunnis are scared of Iran and its puppets like Hamas, both side agree in their hatred against Israel.
So this whole silly dance about talking about "peace" with Israel with muslim Gulf potentates is nothing more but a self-delusion. Hillary, like other Western leaders, acts on a politically correction fiction instead of reality.

WilliB,
While it is true that most of the countries do not recognize the State of Israel and its right to exist, if the Palestinians and Israelis do make a deal, the rest of the Middle East will just have to eat it. Let's face it, most, if not all of the governments of the countries in the Middle East have survived because of their use of the Palestinians to draw away attention from their own failures to effectively serve their own citizens.
Keep in mind, the idiots in the Persian Gulf did not stop Israel and Jordan and Israel and Egypt from making peace (of course Egypt's peace is a rather cool one, but it is certainly better than war was). Although they certainly made it take longer (as they often do and have done with the Palestinians).

Egypt and Israel are nearly on the same page now because of Iran. Not that they want to be, but both want to limit Hamas. The blockade of Gaza couldn't have happened without Egypt agreeing to it as well. The press might have ignored that angle but it doesn't erase the fact that it happened.
Bit back to Hillary... I was a bit surprised by her comments after meeting with Israel. It was like she was expecting everyone to rejoice about the good news or something. Seemed a bit clueless to me...

I agree. It was amateuristic of her, especially the way it was phrased. However, diplomatically, things are quite different in Israel today than they have ever been. You might be aware that Netanyahu is a member of the Likud Party. His statement recognizing a two state solution is the first for a Likud Israeli PM. While there certainly is no reason for dancing in the streets of Palestine yet, this is a huge step that one would hope would be recognized privately by the Palestinian Authority. This should be, at least, a starting point for negotiations between Abbas and Netanyahu.

"The enemy of my friend is my enemy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Now apply that to the PA, Israel, Hamas and anyone else in the region whose enemy is Israel. Add some "look the other way" money here and there, and before long your uncle is your aunt, and nobody trusts anyone. Just the way Israel like it. Same poop, different day.

I agree with SuperLib and Kinniku: Hillary Clinton should have tempered her remarks more to avoid an arab uproar. Settlements are a very sore subject and anything less than a complete freeze isn't going to cut it.

LIBERTAS,
As I am sure you must be aware, beyond your usual blaming of anything and everything on Israel, your post make no sense. 'Just the way you seem to like it.'

If you actually think this is going to bring peace, then you know little about the Middle East.

Soooo, when the heat is on it turns out Hillary is a toaster waffle.

In my opinion, Clinton should never have gotten the post as SOS! Seems she definitely wants to be the next President. Probably can't figure out why she didn't beat Obama out! There will never be peace or a two state solution when the US is so biased with Israel. Then they vote on the Goldstone report that showed photos and documents about the latest war with Palestine & Israel. One would have to be so illiterate to dispute the Goldstone report. Course the US will veto anything that is negative about Israel. Afterall, the Chief of Staff Emanuel served with the Israel military.

Adamwesti,
A click of your name reveals quite a bias against Israel yourself. It's hard to take anyone seriously with such a bias as their words come across more as a 'mission' against Israel rather than a conversation about the Middle East.
LOL! No, he did not. He was never a member of the Israeli military. The fact that you would attempt to use this to further your argument just goes to show how completely bias your argument is.
