I have mixed feelings. On one hand she is a fence mending decision that would even gain some GOP fans. On the other hand, her agenda could clash with Obama's.
But I would like to see her in a significant role.
I like Powell, but not much chance of him gaining the role. The NM Gov. would be likely next in line.

So for endorsing Obama, she got her campaign debt paid off and a potential cabinet post. Hey, she could of done a lot worse.
Although I don't want to see her as Secretary of State, having her in the Senate pushing through her socialized medicine nonsense might be even worse.
Right you are adaydream. One immediately recalls her strength and bravery when landing under sniper fire at the airport in Bosnia. Talk about grace under pressure!

Right Health care for all is pure nonsense..... When are you guys gonna get it. A national Healthcare plan doesnt make a country socialist. Pretty much every other decent developed country in the world has free healthcare.

A national Healthcare plan doesnt make a country socialist." Correct, but it does break the bank..and would make a small few very wealthy. Take out the lobbyists on this and I can guarantee you it never would have been made.
Pretty much every other decent developed country in the world has free healthcare." Yeah, but they are lacking a lot of medicines, good doctors and medical staff.

maninjapan79. Dead on statement.
The rightwing crowd don't account for the massive financial losses that result from the US lack of proper health care. Proper preventative care would reduce strain on urgent care, reduce costs from long term illness and would improve worker health and productivity.
Then you can raise the whole question of disease control such as TB and other resurgent illnesses and what the cost of failing to address these will bring should a TB pandemic start.
The right is always all about their "values" their "family" approach and their religious and moral superiority. But when it comes down to being the samaritan, or even having common sense ethnical values like wanting people to get proper health care, their sensibilities are gone.
Clue in people. Universal Health Care is necessary, morally right, ethnically right and economically sensible. That is why all the better nations have it. The US is becoming a banana republic full of an increasingly poor majority and tiny stingy minority of wealthy.
Time for change. Like it or not!

Hillary Clinton will make an excellent Secretary of State.
goodDonkey at 05:57 PM JST - 19th November
I think Hillary Clinton will make an excellent choice for Secretary of State. Sorry but she is well respected around the world contrary to others beliefs. As far as the vetting process goes Bill would not be a problem for many senators. Republican senators have been saying she is a good choice. Bill's problem is that everybody wants to give him money. Whether the people who gave him money hoped Hillary would become president and they would gain influence has nothing to do with why Bill took the money. Many conservatives in America hate Bill Clinton. Rush Limbaugh wants to spread the hate against Bill. Bill will be able to modify his behavior to any protocol Obama will ask for. He will still shovel in money. So many people in the world like him. Sure he wants to have a prestigious Presidential Library but he has also been working on aids and many other world concerns. Bill and Bush Sr. worked wonderfully together to get money and other assistance after the December 26, 2004 devastating tsunami. Bill is no slacker and he shares his talents of organization and money raising to further charity at the highest level.
As far as health care goes Ted Kennedy did not want Hilary assistance in his pet project. He will push health care reform forward. If he cannot do it in a single piece of legislation then he will help enact it piece meal. He intends to make it his legacy. It does not matter if he dies before it is completed; others will carry on in his name.
Madam Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Has a nice ring to it; don'tcha think?

No country in the world has free health care.
goodDonkey at 07:09 PM JST - 19th November
SuperLib, so you won't mind if people challenge the semantics of your every post? I believe you knew what the poster meant.
powderfinger at 07:12 PM JST - 19th November
"Hillary Clinton will make an excellent Secretary of State."
Only because dealing with the State Dept and dodging bullets in Whereverstan she won't be able to destroy our health care system.
JoiceRojo at 02:50 AM JST - 20th November
you sure you wanted to say "ethnically" and not "ethically"?
I hope that if she gets the post she works an agenda not on her own, but for the president and the country, if she is selfish enough to push her own agenda, then she has nothing to do with the cabinet and better stay at the senate

I wish she would just go away. I'm glad Obama kept her out of the oval office.
Taka313 at 04:50 AM JST - 20th November
OK, this is slightly off-topic but I cannot help notice:
When it came time for a vetting to see if Sen. Clinton is prepared to take on the role of Sec. of State, she worked together with President-elect Obama to hire 3 lawyers to look into her credentials and to see if there is anything that would detract from Pres.-elect Obama's vision.
When it was time for a vetting to see if sarah palin was ready to be V.P.... "Am I ready? You bet'cha."
There is a striking difference in the level of professionalism and intelligence shown between President-elect Obama and what we saw from candidate mccain.
This is indicative of that professionalism and intelligence, in my opinion.

I like Hillary a lot. I make no bones about that. I also do not blame democrats and progressives that do not like her. The reasons I have heard over the years seem legitimate. If Hillary does not follow Obama's policies to the letter she is breaching her responsibilities. She does have a right to her own opinion during policy discussions. If she were to carry out her own agenda and not the presidents she should be fired. I am quite confident that will not happen.
skipthesong at 12:06 PM JST - 20th November
there is no denying that Hillary is an intelligent person. My problem with her is that she has become a "true" politician in the bad sense. She panders too much to make me feel comfortable. Now, that is my opinion. I would hire to many things but I would not over estimate her on the international scene as I have heard many not liking her.
I am sure she is going to get the job but her skills as a politician won't be missed by me but they will be missed by many.
On a side note, I have a proposal for Obama. Why doesn't he appoint Laura Bush as Education sec? I think despite the hate for her husband, she has garnered a lot of respect around the world.
