Under state law, Gardner, 49, was given the choice of being killed by lethal injection or shot by a five-man team of executioners firing from a set of matched rifles, a rarely used relic that harkens back to the western state’s territorial history.

Best way to get executed in my opinion. Given the option that's how I'd go. Lethal injection is so clinical, firing squad is truly the gentlemen’s option it seems wasted on the filth of society. Although the gallows and the electric chair do have their charm as well.

In 1996, more than 150 media outlets descended on Utah to cover Taylor’s execution, painting the firing squad as an Old West style of justice that allows killers to go out in a blaze of glory that embarrasses the state.

Deads dead, while they bring up a valid point that we may be giving convicted killers to much say in their fate some could argue that all forms of capital punishment embarrass the state, I do not.

I agree. This is how I'd go too. Saddam wanted to be executed by firing squad, as well, but a vindictive Iraqi people chose to hang him instead. I'm pretty certain the U.S. military still executes by firing squad.

I'd consider asking for it too, but would ask them to go for the head -- you get hit in the chest and there's still, at the very least, 5 seconds of extreme agony. If they mess up somehow with the aim, far more.

I just find it odd who get death and who doesn't. He killed one guy trying to escape? I suppose that is reason enough (although there is no justifying the death penalty). But there are people who have done far worse, and I am talking extended torture and mutilation of random people, and they get life.

But it hardly matters if they are hung, shot or injected. Electric chairs should go though. Those things are just plain gruesome.

Wow, this is funny in a very dark humor kind of way. Is he going to get his last smoke and some commandant with a saber by his side in full regalia to light it up for him?

This is an antiquated execution just like hanging. But some murderers just feel like they should go out with a bang according to some of the previous executions with firing squads.
