No democracy no peace.

Castro is right. The US deals with and has diplomatic ties with countries all over the world with different types of government.

The US shouldn't be determining diplomatic ties base on the type of government whether it be a socialist, communist, democratic, theocratic or autocratic government.

It should be based on how the said governments treat its people.

Cuba being singled out is a result from a period that is long gone. Let's move into the 21 century. Let's get it on with Cuba.

Cuban society is certainly not for America to determine - nor is it for the Castro brothers. A Cuba more open to America will give the people more choice, particularly after Raul is buried.

@Laguna And that is all I ever wanted: a government that legitimately represents the Cuban people.

Good for the U.S. too. Now ordinary Americans van legally travel to Cubato get affordable health care.

What deal?

Castro is right. The US deals with and has diplomatic ties with countries all over the world with different types of government.

Well, the Idiot leader we have as a commander in chief has just given the Golden Goose to the Castro brothers and what did we get in return? NOTHING.

The US shouldn't be determining diplomatic ties base on the type of government whether it be a socialist, communist, democratic, theocratic or autocratic government.

Yeah, we should, as long as countries like Russia use Cuba to resupply their ships with fuel, allow their subs to dock in Cuba as well as their planes and to fly through US airspace which means Cuba is aiding and allowing Russians to break our space of influence. Had Cuba put a halt to that, allowed their citizens access to the internet, released their protesters citizens that are anti-Castro, human rights abuse and allowing their people the freedom to come and go as they wish, I wouldn't have a problem with it and most Cuban Americans wouldn't have a problem with it, but Obama as only he can in his own dimwitted way, once again finds a way to screw things up!

It should be based on how the said governments treat its people.

Which is beyond bad!

Cuba being singled out is a result from a period that is long gone.

No, Cuba was being singled out because of crazy fanatic tyrant.

Let's move into the 21 century. Let's get it on with Cuba.

Let's hope the Castro brothers fall by the wayside soon enough to be able to allow real peach and transition and for real change and growth to occur in Cuba and Obama just couldn't care less about the Cuban people or about anyone else, except himself!

Oh, Bass, sometimes you just crack me up.

Fidel is/was a loon for sure, but the previous regime was a U.S. vassal state, undeniably. The commie revolution was a direct result of US interventionism. Uncle Sam ought to stick to his own internal affairs and not interfere in other countries'.

Granted, but how about the Castro brothers making concessions and NOT allowing Russians to resupply meaning honoring the Monroe Doctrine and denying the Russians ANY military access to get near, to listen or land ANY of their ships, vehicles and planes close to our vicinities. Ok, I will give you Raoul, maybe sooner or later it would be inevitable to reestablish relations with Cuba, but Fidel? He's 88 and why not wait until his time is up or is the bigger picture about Obama having 700 days left in office and him desperately trying to cement something for his faltering legacy, it's a long shot, he knows he's pissing off millions of Cuban Americans, but why not take a chance since the average American could care less about the plight of what Cubans went and suffered through with this nut job. At least one good thing and silver lining under all of this and that is, he needs to go through Congress to have them lift the embargo and that doesn't happen (which I hope) it's back to square one.

First NK tells the USA what to do, now Cuba dictates what it must do. Yes, Virginia, there really is a paper tiger!

I have no problem with Communism or one Party Government if the Government respects basic Human Right of Citizens and Press-Freedom and allow Citizens to direct impeachment on corrupted Politicians including President.

Then you should really be disturbed about this deal with Cuba!

Cold War is over, Cuba can be communist for as long as it wants, that's up to them, if they don't like it they can have anouther revolution. In the meantime, it's ridiculous to cut ourselves off from a nearby country who we should be trading with and enjoying as tourists. Cuba has done fine considering the embargo and compared to other latin American countries

Nonsense, how can you have another revolution when the Castro brothers would have you shot dead in the streets for doing it. How about the Castro brothers give millions back to their people, how about the Castro brothers start paying the people in USD $$ rather than worthless Pesos! Do I want normalization with Cuba, of course, but at least wait until Fidel is out of the picture first! With his brother, there might be a small chance with working with him, but in the meantime, release all their opposition political prisoners and respect the Monroe Doctrine get something in return and then we can start working with Cuba and if they can follow all of that, they can run their country as they see fit, but thank God it's up to Congress to decide whether to lift the embargo or not and I pray that both sides will do the right thing and NOT lift it until Cuba is willing to do the things I mentioned.

Obama wants to instil democratic principles in the Cuban government like torture, endless war and police brutality? Instead of the Cubans changing maybe the Americans should be ........?
