Doesn't matter where you are these days, it seems, mother nature is out to prove a point: I've got plenty more where this came from.
I hope everyone gets out safely and the storm abates.

Not much fun down there at the moment, up to 1 metre of rain and wind gusts of up to 250kph that's not nice at all.

If this thing is so large and has been going for several days, how has it avoided any islands on the way?
And if it has actually hit somewhere so far, how come this news has not been reported. (You would have thought it might have some relevance to the next people in line....?)

AdamB, yes, I checked it and yes, it looks huge and yes, it looks as though it must have crossed several islands on the way... but not a peep out of them...

nandakandamanda,
It came close to the Northern islands of Vanuatu shortly after forming when it was a catagory 1 storm but since then has been in open water in the Coral sea and has gained strength hence no reports as it hasnt hit anything yet. Regardless not really what Qld needs after the recent floods...

Well, it looks like Cairns is going to take the direct hit. I remember a tornado or something went through there a few years ago and ripped off many roofs. Let's hope they all find somewhere to shelter, and let's hope the cyclone veers off somehow.

I hate to see this happen to Cairns. What a great little town. One of my favorite places in all of Australia.
