smith, I agree the situation is rife for lawsuits. Speak the truth and you'll get thumbs-down.

Everyone affected by the accident, individuals and businesses is likely to sue.

Lawsuits or hot it's a horrific mess. But I thought that the whole point of air brakes was that when the pressure dropped the brakes went on. So shutting down the compressor should have set the brakes. Guess I was wrong.

I heard that allegation tossed around but this is also my understanding of train brakes, although I presume they're vacuum rather than air brakes, both of which you would certainly be right in saying lock up when deprived of air rather than a fluid system in a car where a leak means no brakes....

The chain of events that led up to this carnage is quite frankly unbelievable. Most of the law suits won't be frivolous.

Well since the train killed so many people I would say lawsuits are in order.
