I wonder how this compares to countries that have universal health insurance - I'm assuming that that would make it easier for total perscriptions to be tracked and over-prescribing to be avoided.
Not surprised to read that legal perscription narcotics are 3 times more deadly than the narcotics that gets poor people into the for profit prison system.

Taj, you have very very good questions, now I do not live in the USA but I can ask my family and see what they what they will say, but yes too many people in the USA are abusing pain killers and some times things can go very very wrong.

I suspect that there's a fundamental problem with health care being a for-profit business enterprise. I do not have the stats to back that up. Just hypothsizing.
