The interest in Cain shows the dearth in credible republican candidates.I reckon he would have the best chance of toppling Obama, but he can't win the nomination.

Herman Cain says what he means and he means what he says.

My name is Herman Cain, and I am a motivational speaker....

9-9-9 thinking ONLY works in his business "Old Chicago".

It means 9 inch pizza with 9 toppings. It only costs $9 for take out.

The only candidate I like, John Huntsman, boycotted the debate.

Deplore, I am with you. I like John Huntsman. He is a streight shooter, no BS.

Herman Cain says what he means and he means what he says.

Too bad what he says is a load of BS.

Romney placed his on Perry’s shoulder.

Romney placed his *what *on Perry's shoulder? If it's what I think it is, no wonder he looks so confident.

    @Ivan, what is the what:

Judging by debate photos, it was a well-manicured paw that got placed on Perry's shoulder. The target was either a pressure point or a pulse.

Just think, if Germans started saying Cain's campaign slogan, it would sound like the chorus from that Amy Winehouse song "Rehab."

Agreed. John Huntsman is the only serious, sensible candidate on the Right.

That's probably why conservatives aren't taking him seriously.

They would much rather support this incoherant, under-educated bunch of flunkies whose key aim is to grab America by the throat and drag it yelling and screaming back into the 18th century.

It's spelled incohere nt. No hyphen is needed between under and educated. "Dragged yelling and screaming" is used to describe a situation in which the unknowing beneficiary opposes something everyone else recognizes would be for its own good, and therefore comes as if having to be dealt with like an intractable child.

He reminds me of that Aussie loser, Kevin Rudd.

    Obamacare...Romneycare...

Heh, maybe it's the "care" angle that upsets all those crazy wingers. But we all know that kinda attitude can lead to a wide stance in the bathroom.

Kinda un-believeable they haven't got a credible candidate to oppose Mr Obama, since they do whine about him a lot. It smacks of '04 to me, where despite opposing the illiterate, nay oft mentally challenged Bush jnr, the dems couldn't cough up a candidate other than the grey and boring Kerry who ultimately lost to Dubya, something I still have a hard time understanding.

The obstructionist, America be damned and NO to Obama is the only program these people have from opposition. And that isn't a program...it's simply pathetic.

The party should have splintered after Bush. An end to the two-party sort-of-a-cracy and quite possibly, the child-like antics of todays US politics.

Messy in 2012 it's gonna be.

Love it when these guys go on the attack against each other - it gives me a chance to finally agree with them.

I hope somebody provided some mud.

Some exchanges were personal, almost petty. Romney repeatedly chided Perry and former Pennsylvania Sen Rick Santorum for talking over him. Perry accused Romney of making false claims, and reminded voters that Romney had employed illegal immigrants to do lawn work a few years ago.

And you can bet your life, these guys will be united and there'll be handshakes everywhere as soon as the presidential elections start.

And Cain's rough treatment suggested it's possible that Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich or Paul will have chances to rise in the polls

Hope not. especially the first two, Bachmann and the guy with the unfortunate surname, are real vile homophobes. Isn't Bachmann associating with the totally irrelevant Anita Bryan? Wouldn't surprise me if the guy with the unfortunate surname is in the closet. You get lots of them in the Rep. party.

I agree. I think he's the only sane person running on the republican ticket. I would actually consider voting for him, if he were to win the nomination.

Wow, what a bunch of no opt losers. I have to admit adding Palin would be putting the cherry on the top of nutty sundae. I miss her now that she has receeded from the limelight.

So it will be Romney and Rubio it looks like. This is good for Obama for sure as Romney will keep the far right christians from voting as they will not be able to vote for a cult member(as they say). Does not matter, if Obama puts Hilary in the VP slot its game over no matter who runs as a republican.

Sure Huntsman looks good compared to the seven dwarfs. But Obama neutralized him four years ago with the job in China. Very shrewd of Obama to do that. The man is seven steps ahead of any republican, even the few smart ones that are still left in the party.

I would actually consider voting for [Huntsman]. if he were to win the nomination.

I would consider voting for him too. Just to help restore some semblance of sanity in the main opposition party.

Looks like Romney vs. Obama. I'm looking forward to those debates. The businessman will eviscerate the part time teacher on issues of economics and jobs. He will have a whole term of mismanagement to use as ammunition. Foreign policy will be a wash as Obama has basically continued the Bush policies forward with little change.

Wondering who will get second slot on the ticket... Huntsman would be a good fit there. I'd personally love to see it be Newt Gingrich, if only to see him take on Joe 'Mumbles' Biden in the VP debates. But ol' Newt is carrying way too much baggage.

Romney is the only Republican with any real chance of getting elected; if the Republican base can't see that they are even crazier than they appear (which is pretty crazy...)

lol, a guy who is only slightly to the right of Obama himself, is in no way a serious, sensible candidate. Only whacked out loons even consider him a candidate. He would be better off switching parties and challenging Obama. He'd sure fit in better as a Dem, although he would still be too far left to be viable.

Romney is the only Republican with any real chance of getting elected; if the Republican base can't see that they are even crazier than they appear (which is pretty crazy...)

Actually, whoever the Republicans nominate, will have an excellent chance of getting elected. You are forgetting who they are going up against. The most incompetent president in US history, who has mismanaged the economy so badly even his own party members are starting to wake up from their kool-aid induced stupor.

My take on the candidates... Paul - a good guy, but way too far out on foreign policy to be considered seriously. Romney - Tries to position himself as a moderate, but Republicans as a party are far more conservative, hence why he hasn't managed to secure the nomination despite so called front runner status. Perry - Supposedly the conservative alternative to Romney, but his positions and actions as Govonor of Texas undercut that claim. From the Gardisil fiasco to his positions on illegals, he is far from conservative. Bachman - I like Bachman, she actually is conservative, and I think she would make a good President, but I don't think she can make it through the Primaries. She is my number 2 choice. Cain - Initially I was skeptical of the guy. Particularly after watching some of his interviews. But he is a guy who is saying all the right things. Its why he is the current front runner. However he has 2 major drawbacks. First, he has no ground game. He doesn't have a real campaign organization yet, which is a bad thing when trying to get yourself on the ballot. Also, he has no real experience in elective office.

I'm not sure who will be the eventual President. At this point though, its looking like it will be either President Cain, or President Romney.

I should add, I don't consider Santorum, Johnson, and Gingrich to be viable at all. Even with Gingrich's debate performance.

There isn't a Johnson among the Republican candidates.

Both parties are similar in the approach candidates have to securing the nomination. Republicans drift to the right during the nomination, and then back to the centre for the general election. Democrats drive left during their primaries, then back to the centre for the election.

Although in one way, Obama's policy mirrors that of other democrats. Historically, Democrats have been warmongers and republicans generally more isolationist. Obama is continuing that trend with troop increases in Afghanistan, drone strikes on US citizens, maintaining Guantanamo Bay, etc.

How many times do you have to repeat things like this to yourself before you can pretend you believe them?

It's too early to say whether or not Obama is the most incompetent. I DO think a lot of Democrats are having 'buyers remorse' over choosing him though. They voted for style over substance and got burned.

Molenair - "Bachman - I like Bachman, she actually is conservative, and I think she would make a good President"

lol!!! Funniest thing I've read all week.

Sadly for you, even the majority of conservative voters know she isn't anywhere near fit for the Oval Office.

Bachman is Sarah Palin Lite - it's really difficult to tell which is more clueless and unfit to run America.

Molenair - "I'm not sure who will be the eventual President. At this point though, its looking like it will be either President Cain, or President Romney."

    That's not quite as funny.

The problem with this bunch of GOP candidates, is that NONE of them besides Cain has any sort of strategy whatsoever to run America.

Opposing the president and saying "No" as many times as possible just isn't a strategy,
