Officials on Monday revealed dramatic new details of the accident, saying a rapid change in pressure caused the plane to "explode" as it hit the water.

"It exploded because of the pressure," said S.B Supriyadi, a director from the search and rescue agency.

"The cabin was pressurised and before the pressure of the cabin could be adjusted, it went down - boom. That explosion was heard in the area."

Hold on a minute, 'explode' or 'implode'?

At sea level, atmospheric pressure is approximately 15psi. When an airliner is flying at cruising altitude, its cabin is pressurized to no less than 10.9psi which is the equivalent of being around 8000ft above sea level (usually closer to 6000-6500ft). The lower the altitude, the higher the air pressure. It will NEVER exceed air pressure at sea level so an explosion due to air pressure regulation problems in the cabin seems highly unlikely.

Now I know this from first hand experience because I've had MANY empty water bottles with the cap on get crushed during descent into airports at or near sea level. If the pressure inside the aircraft was less than the outside air pressure after it suddenly dove/fell out of the sky at horrific speeds would the 'bang' not be an implosion? That makes a lot of difference as to what hell befell the passengers and crew on board that doomed flight as it tells clearly that the aircraft did just that, stay in one piece, fuselage wise, just before it hit the water. A horrible amount of time must have passed during that horrific descent. RIP to all the souls aboard that flight.

Getting on board an airplane today ... I wonder to what % is it suicide?
