The last paragraph is so contradictory to the early reports that he had been in SUCH a hurry to leave that he forgot his cell phone. There is no such thing as responsible journalism. This story is getting more convoluted as details continue to emerge. And might I add, this is the most sexually graphic article I have ever read on JT! GO JT! Pull no punches!

I was sure this guy's lawyer said he was innocent?!

I want to know more. This article is not giving us any new details about the case.

Investigators told the AP they believed the carpet in the hotel room may contain Strauss-Kahn’s semen, spat out after an episode of forced oral sex by the maid.

Wow, that sounds tough to prove.

The two people would not describe the material found on the shirt, but said DNA matched a sample from Strauss-Kahn, who submitted to testing after his arrest more than a week ago. He denies the charges.

I think we all know what the "material" is...

We still don't know where the DNA is from, but at the very least, the presence of his DNA on her gives credence that the two of them were in the room together in contact. So that may rule out a defense that he wasn't there when she was there.

If there was semen on her, then the defense becomes, not that it didn't happen at all, but whether it was consensual.

So that's basically his two likely defenses.

    lostrune2,

"So that may rule out a defense that he wasn't there when she was there." Not really, whats to say that he didnt do a bit of solo action and leave some DNA on the sheets, he then goes out and she comes into the room changes the sheets and there we have potential contact. There are so many ways this can be construed that l guess we will have to wait for the trial to get the details. But unfortunately the old saying innocent until proven guilty is out the window here and has been since the outset

Actually DNA can be extracted from anything from bodily fluids to hair and skin cells. ... so, have you ever seen a hair in your bathroom at home? I'm bloody certain you have, because we all constantly shed skin, hair, etc. Note that they don't say if it was something that could have been picked up and placed on her person, like a stray hair. It proves exactly nothing.

Leave this up to the courts and the judges, they'll get all the facts, get to hear the testimony and make up their own minds.

Well this means that if it is a setup, then it is a very well arranged setup.

During their investigation, authorities cut out a piece of carpet and swabbed sinks and other surfaces in his hotel room.

What the heck do they want to prove with this? That he has stayed in the room??

    lostrune2

    Frungy,

No of course the DNA won't be from something ordinarily picked up (from leaked reports, seems it would be semen). AdamB has a point though, but now it seems the defense would be arguing it happened but it's consensual.

Surely if you lose hair, it can transform itself into sperm ? That's like the girl that said she was virgin and got pregnant from the swimming-pool. So far, they did not publish the results. But they were clearly looking for fluids indicating sexual relations and/or a fight. Like the blood stains, you don't make some all the time.

I don't see why they don't just come out and say what it was. Technically it's possible to have "traces of DNA" of anyone, especially if you are a hotel maid cleaning someone's room.

What a surprise. So his defense is actually going to be that it was consensual? Around midnight she goes up to the room and gives him oral sex, he rushes for the airport and drops his phone while she calls the cops?

Notice how in other articles they mention their lawyers asked for a delay so they could await the results of the DNA test. Gee, why would they do that if they're going to claim it was consensual? It almost seems as if they're tailoring their defense to whatever the evidence happens to be, regardless of what actually happened. What a surprise.

IMF, the rapists of the world.

gonemad, you need to reread the article. It clearly says they're looking for semen. Please, don't comment if you skip over the critical parts like this.

Kaptankichigai, Strauss Kahn was arrested at 2:15am. Nobody, not Strauss himself disputes that it was 2:15am in the morning when he was arrested. Thus, they are goddamn liars if they said he had lunch anytime near to his arrest time. Goddamn liars. I mean his lawyers are bats--t crazy if they actually said that.

Wonder what they found, hair samples, public hair? Either can be obtained by the maid while cleaning his room. There are places in the room to acquire semen as well. The maid had the run of the apartment and anything she found could be set up by her to incriminate him.

Not that I want to try to hard to defend this guy, but, the fact that he flirted with other female employees could actually help his defense. They may argue that he flirted with the maid as well, but that she responded positively, and that supports the idea that it was consensual. Still, IMO, he's going down.

It was a "setup"? Seems pretty ridiculous to me to pretend that a young female immigrant from rural Africa, a practicing Muslim, would possess the wherewithal, awareness of cultural differences and the kind of wiles it would take to play both law enforcement and the legal systemm in a case with stakes as high as they are in this one.

Another indicator is how spectacularly unsuccessful his advances were. Four separate incidents where he hit on women, and all four failed. They were so pathetic that it would have taken a miracle or a woman with incredibly low standards and self-esteem to even consider accepting them. This is not the sort of thing one expects from a serial womanizer.

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman. Oops, I forgot about the blue dress"

That was the first thought I had when I read the headline for this article. DSK - like Clinton before him - is an idiot. I hope he doesn't try the old "it's only about sex" defense.

Well, I won't even try to find a way to defend this guy.

This article makes this guy sound brutal. A clear misogynist. Where are you @worried? I'm with you on this one. This turd deserves both barrels. Where's Mickey and Mallory Knox when you need em? He should not have touched that maid like that.

@worried, this is your poster boy right here. If you ever needed a face to fit the way you describe men here he is, Strauss!!!

If it was a setup, she would of course only have been a hired part of it. The interestest who wanted to Kahn removed have unlimited means. And muslim would just be the icing on the cake, giving it even more punch in our society.

Not saying it is, but as conspiracy theories go, this one is fair enough.
