Has there been a non-American officer in command of the NATO troops in Afghanistan? Even though there are countries from all across the organisation it always seems to be a Yank in charge.

Call me crazy but I'm guessing it's because the Americans have nearly 70,000 boots on the ground, as opposed for example to Montenegro's 40 soldiers or Armenia's 126 grunts.
You're on to something here, maybe Iceland with their whopping two soldier contribution should be put in charge of the job to soothe anti-American sentiment - whether it will do anything for the US inferiority complex's suffered by some of our posters however, is another matter.....
