More proof of just how fake and out of touch these "representatives" are.

Sorry, I can't imagine them doing a Hula, etc dance = baaaarf.
Now if they do a meet in NZ would be fun to see them perform the Haka.

For many people in Hawaii an Aloha shirt is standard business attire so I'm not sure why it would have been embarrassing in any way to wear one.

What's 'silly' about an aloha shirt?

Nobody wants to see them having too much fun in paradise when there's a lot of people suffering.

Funny. This is one of the few or maybe even the first time that the local dress custom would have looked pretty comparatively normal. I like aloha shirts and it probably is one of the few local dress customs that could have been worn at an APEC Summit that is also actually really worn and quite poplular outside the specific culture.
BTW, tokyokawasaki, haven't you heard? Dasai is the new 'cool'. ;)

An aloha shirt is nowhere near as dasai as regulation suit'n'tie.

To quote Homer Simpson : "Aloha shirts are only worn by big fat party animals and gay guys!" Glad we didn't have to see these leaders in them!

The way it looks? Especially when you are not in Hawaii, but looking at a picture of one of your leaders in your home country where its about to snow.
I have never had any appreciation for those shirts or the yearly pics. But I wish they would find something else as formal wear than suits and ties. Fashions of the past were visually appealing, and one would think that with today's technology and all those fibers we have available, we could come up something else more appealing to eye that does not involve having a noose around your neck.

I'm sure leaders coming from freezing cold countries were sweat like pigs and wishing They were in aloha shirts shorts and sandals!!

Gaudy? The author of this article does not have a clue. Some of the Aloha shirts are indeed "colorful" but, there are many designs that are elegant.
