"Obama praised Edwards as "a great champion of working people"

The great champion of the working people who owns a $6 million, 28,000 square foot mega-mansion?

George McGovern: "We've got one of the ablest candidates ever nominated"

Tee hee! This, from the candidate who lost in a landslide to Richard Nixon.

The real story here is that The Enquirer broke a story that real journalist would have been on like white on rice a generation ago. And yet the U.S. media (according to leftists) does not favor the democrats.

    Riiiiight.

Well if your going to have scandal from a purely political point of view the timing for the damage control mode could not be better. The damage and fallout will last maybe two or three days and thats it. It could have been a lot worse. Ms. Edwards was slated to give a major address on health care issues at the Dem's convention and John Edwards was to be a pretty important part there also, not sure if slated to speak but I'm sure he was going to be in the spotlight in a pretty significant way. Plenty of time before the convention to recover from this, the political fallout would have been a whole lot worse if it broke after the convention. Second with the Olympics now going on and Obama on vacation mainly I would guess he took a little time off because the news cycles will be more dominated with that then the campaign right now and a good time for him and his campaign to take a break to formulate his battle plan going into the final stretch, also works in whatever damage Edwards has caused the party. Another factor the republicans aren't really touching this at all or making any political hay about it. I have to say if your going to have a scandal you couldn't pick better timing to have it break. I don't think this is going to hurt the Democrats at all at this point. I do think it would have caused major damage to the party if it broke after the convention. Maybe the Democrats should thank the National Enquirer after all for going with what they had now instead of later.

There was always some lingering concern that John Edwards was a phony. Now that he has been exposed as a liar and a cheat, makes sense for those that wanted to thrust this cad on us, just apologize and make him go away.

This has been a brutal election year for the Democrats. Hillary has been put on ice effectively until the American people decide if they want Barack Obama or not. John Edwards has been placed out in the cold through his own wrong doings. Could you imagine a guy like this as the Vice President or Attorney General?

The National Enquirer deserves kudos for this one.

    Sailwind - good analysis.

    Thanks.

VOR - Obama's still going to win :-)

It's bad enough that edwards cheated on his wife who's dying of cancer, now he claims that the love child is not his. There has been no paternity test but he knows he is not the father. Heh, time to call "Maurey" and do a "who's the baby's daddy" special.

Another lyiing "I didn't have sex with that woman" democrat is gone.

Yeah John Edwards screwed up. He played the odds of getting something different and got caught.

    Good-bye from the political landscape.

At least he's not in office...playing with boys or tapping on restroom stalls. < :-)

Edwards was never really a big name in his home state. North Carolinian's would not have re-elected him even if he had the cajones to run - which he didn't. He is and always has been a political light weight. How he got so far in the Democrat party is hard to understand - same goes for Obama. At least Barack has not proven to be as downright stupid as Edwards to this point.

  • RomeoRamenII at 11:28 PM JST - 11th August

He denied, however, fathering the six-month-old baby

Well, since it was the National Enquirer that broke the story about jesse jackson's love child, which turned out to be true, look for the story about edward's love child to be just as true. The National Enquirer has the goods on edwards.
