Nearly all museums that are holding Egyptian antiquities are the sole reason that those antiquities still exist, had these things been left in Egypt they would have long since have been turn into nothing.

“Hawass has repeatedly requested the return of a 3,200-year-old golden mask of a noblewoman from the St Louis Art Museum”

Perhaps Hawass might like to try and find all the other golden artefacts that his fellow country men dug up and melted down. Sorry but the rest of the world saw the value and saved Egypt’s history, from the Egyptians, and we have also seen how the Taliban respect antiquities. These things are safer outside Egypt.

That does not alter the fact that these antiquities were in fact smuggled out of Egypt.

Keeping Egyptian antiquities in all the museums of Europe is a masked theft.

The museums had better start making replicas ASAP upon this news. True that if they had remained in Egypt it would have disappeared anyway, and some private collector or overwealthy eccintric would have it stashed away somewhere. Hmm, how long before that gold mask disappears once it returns?
