Morsi stepped over the acceptable line and I'm afraid he can't or won't step back.

And in related Egypt-US news, Egypt is set to receive additional F-16 jets as a gift from the Obama administration.

" Despite instability due to the new Islamic government in Egypt, the US is sending more than 20 F-16 fighter jets to Egypt as part of a $1 billion foreign aid package.

The first four Lockheed Martin F-16 fighter jets are set to arrive in Egypt on Jan. 22, an unnamed source told Fox News. Although Egypt already has more than 200 such planes and the latest delivery fulfills an order placed two years ago when former President Hosni Mubarak was still in power, the protests and widespread instability in Egypt have caused some to wonder if providing jets at this time is a bad idea."

Mmmmm, a billion dollar gift at a time when the US budget is a 1.6 billion dollar deficit. Hmmmmm.

    ubiqwit,

Note that Egypt already has over 200 F-16's.
Or, were being sarcastic about US needing Morsy to bolster the military-industrial complex?

Fortunately for Egypt, the army is still very much in control.

The US needs Morsi to bolster the military industrial complex

This is incorrect on a couple of levels. One) The Egyptian army is in the party in control of Egypt, not Morsi. Two) Egypt gladly and gratefully receives military and other assistance from the US. Of these two, it is worth repeating that the Egyptian army, not Morsi, is actually in control of Egypt. In the end, Morsi is in power at the pleasure of the military. Geopolitically, this is a good thing in my opinion.

    Herve,

Personally, I don't think it was meant to be sarcasm, but instead was a lack of knowledge about the structure of the Egyptian government in addition to being just an excuse to use the term 'military-industrial-complex.

I think it is possible that the planes and the aid package are to keep the Egyptian military happy and keep them in true control of the situation. If so, it is a wise plan.

The US needs Morsi to bolster the military industrial complex, which accounts for an increasing share of the GDP with each passing year.
