These diverging narratives have been reflected in reactions to the deal, in which Israel will free some 1,027 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Sgt. Gilad Schalit,

I don't know who is the bigger fool here. Is it the Israelis for releasing so many just to get one man back? Or is it the Pals who are essentially saying one Israeli footsoldier are worth 1,027 Palestinian fighters?

at having to release convicted perpetrators of suicide bombings

Will they be released one piece at a time? Or perhaps all at once in a bucket?

You cannot envy the released soldier, either.

A Hamas leader in Gaza, Mahmoud Zahar, told the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot in an interview published Sunday that the swap deal for Schalit will encourage the Islamic group to capture more soldiers.

“The lessons we’ve learned by kidnapping soldiers leads us to continue the kidnappings,” the Hamas leader said.

    Hamas in a nutshell.

Israel is stupid! Let one soldier be sacrificed for his country but just get rid of these terrorist prisoners by using the death penalty or send them out to Guantanamo Cuba! Still lots of vacancies for terrorists So welcome to Cuba crazy Palestinian terrorists IMHO.

Israel obviously is the bigger fool. The only winners in this are the terrorists, and the family of this soldier that have convinced Israel that it is in their best interest to collectively be idiots. Its going to come back on Netanyahu, when these men get out, some or many of them will again attack Israel, and when they do, and are discovered, it will be loudly reported that a person released for Shalit murdered another Israeli. Very short term gain, for long term cost. Stupid.

Israel obviously is the bigger fool.

I'm inclined to agree, but for different reasons. This move was a rather obvious ploy to boost Hamas inorder to undermine Fatah and prevent Palestinian unity.

I don't know if thats the thinking behind it, I rather doubt it in fact, but I don't doubt it will have that effect, and that those who made this decision realized this as well.

I think the prisoner swap is more to do with Israeli fears over the "Arab Spring" than concern over one Israeli soldier even though under more different times, he would have been important too, just not at the current exchange rate.

Sgt. Gilad Schalit has been released and his on way home to his family. Looked very thin. But it won't end 60 years of wars and violence.

Sgt. Gilad Schalit has reached his home and his family, on the Lebanon border. The Palestinian prisoners, or a large number of them have reached Gaza City. Some of them are addressing large crowds, up to 100,000, which had been waiting their return. Hamas considers this to be a great victory.
