Idiots, Idiots, Idiots.
The hardliners who could condone such behavior are nothing but idiots.

Iran is simply practising islamic Shariah.
While the EU is now calling this barbaric, they allow the gradual establishment of Shariah councils in Europe itself.
This is totally schizophrenic. Do the Europeans accept Shariah, or not? They can´t have it both ways.

Iran practices RADICAL Sharia law, not standard Sharia Law.
Sharia law in europe is mostly for arbitration of disputes, and BOTH parties have to agree to settle it that way.
Sharia Law does NOT replace or supercede the existing Law in England, France, etc and it is NEVER applied to Criminal cases but more for divorce settlements, business dealing disputes, etc.
I honestly think you need to study up a lot more as most of your posts show your ignorance/misunderstandings of what you are talking about.

If stoning someone is acceptable in Iranian society (and apparently it is since the populace has not revolted or mobilized themselves to protect this person) then who is Europe or anyone else to comment on it? I agree that it is brutal but this is the middle east... Things that are legally impermissible here are accepted there. When the population itself rises up, then European criticism will be more credible.

That is an artificial distinction made by you. If you accept that Allahs law should rule on earth, then you have to accept all of Shariah, as Teheran does.
As for the "moderate" Shariah courts in Europe, think of the first step onto a slippery slope.

No a distinction made by me.
I CANNOT be tried by sharia law in Europe unless I agree to be tried by it. Shariah Law in Europe is as much accepted as arbitration by by Rabbi, priest, etc for disputes and just as legal.

combinibento, they revolted for more serious reasons recently, just to be violently repressed. it is not that the general public likes or agrees with these practices (I have Iranian friends and I know their opinion), it's just they are afraid of their "enlighten" government.

Oh oh. Bernard Kouchner is here as well.

Didn't they just stone a woman recently?

Oops, maybe a woman just got stoned. Not a crime in my books.

Tell that to the muslim woman who insists on going to a western infidel court as opposed to the Shariah court as demanded by her husband, family, and imam. Yeah right.
The rulings of Shariah courts (limited inheritance for women, discriminatory childrens custody, wife-beating, etc.) are totally contradictory to Western law.
Right now, the Shariah advocates take is as far as they can. Of course, the more the West gives in, the further they take it. And at the end of the line you have complete Shariah, including the brutal punishments you see in Iran today.
Fact is, Shariah is Shariah. The idea that a little bit Shariah is good and complete Shariah is not, is intellectually dishonest.

They can demand it don't mean they will get it. :)

We cannot help them, not a single person from iran stand against and come forward for this issue. Then why we care, i dont care though i know its inhumane. Very backward.

This is nothing short of blatant interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign country!
The EU should mind its own business!

I'm a bit curious as to how this is going to play out.....

She will be killed, the Euros will post a few lame protests, and in the same breath re-confirm that nothing is wrong with islam.
Business as usual.

Americans blaming Europe for this are as the pot calling the kettle black.

Sharia Law or any law that stones a woman for such crimes (proven or not) should be abolished. I am not going to preach religion or history but what if your mother or daughter was dragged to prison, giving 99 lashes and treated like dirt while waiting for her body to be bombarded with fist sized stones, how would you feel?. Too many innocent women have been stoned (murdered for adultery, proven or not) - Watch this if you haven't http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TheStoningofSorayaM. Islam has many good values but this is just a crime against humanity. Enough said. I pray for Ashtiani and her family

She will soon be dead but at least she got to hear Obama's Cairo speech to the Mohammedan world, reminding them of what a great religion they all live, and die, and are executed under.
