    If 40% of French dairy farmers really do go bankrupt in three months the situation will resolve itself. Less supply = higher prices, so the remaining 60% of dairy farmers will be able to make a living. Problem solved, at no further cost to the taxpayer.

    Ahhh. The wonders of capitalism; I wish someone would explain this to all those people who seem to seem to think that "the free market" is a some sort of magical fairy which goes around sprinkling economic success everywhere it goes. Ditto for the "capitalism has failed" crowd. Not, the boom and bust cycle is not a "failure" of capitalism, it IS capitalism. The only way out is regulation, but it's far too easy to break more than you fix.
