    If Japan only consumes 40% of bluefin tuna I don't know why it gets most of the blame for the demise of said fish.

    And as Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Spain, France and Italy are the ones doing almost all the catching of said fish, why don't they get more of the blame?

    I'd be glad to go without bluefin forever, but I don't eat expensive foods anyway so it wouldn't make a difference. But just because some Japanese people are willing to pay stupidly high prices for bluefin doesn't make them responsible. It's the people who deliberately go out and kill them that are most to blame. I've read in news articles that Malta is the main culprit. Where are the sea shepherds when there's reason for them to protest?

    The EU should learn from Japan how to fertilize the eggs and raise bluefin on a farm. Some of those farmed fish are now making their way to the market in Japan. Once they learn how to develop a suitable food for the tuna, they can stop having to catch scads for feeding these veracious feeders. I hope they start releasing some of the farmed fish into the wild as a replenishment plan.

    I am definitely for the ban. They can always lift it later. The levels have dropped too low.

    The likelihood of the survival of the blue fin tuna is very low unless action is taken to protect it,

    Unlike the climate scam, this actually makes sense. There are plenty of other overfished species, and tuna is not fast-reproducing one. It stands to reason that there is not enough to feed the Japanese (and growing chinese) appetite.

    Better eat lots of maguro now, it will become unavailable one way or the other.

    Only Japan should be allowed to eat it. The copy cats should stick with their own cuisines.

    Blame does lie on the fisherman first. Japan just needs to curb their intake of this species, or rely on tuna farms until the tuna can naturally recuperate in the wild. Considering that aside from the legal fisherman we now have fish poachers doesn't help.
