He's a flight risk. He needs to be fitted with one of those electronic monitor devices around one of his ankles so we know where the old lecher is at all times.

I like the conditions of the bail, particularly the armed guards. They are fair and guarantee that he will not flee to France. Now let's hope for the trial.

    Lieberman,

He will be. He'll also be under armed guard and constant video survalence. This on top of surrendering his passport, posting 1 million in cash and 5 million bond.

The only group that can help him now is French Intelligence.

Well, I know this for a fact since I am an American living in Los Angeles (& Ashiya). One million dollar bail is a bail set for murders. "Innocent until proven guilty" is the foundation of our judicial system. Now we have seemingly back-tracked to "Guilty until proven innocent". The standard of true Third Wirld Country justice. Flight risk? I doubt it.

That is of course unless he will be as hard to find as bin-Laden.

Of course it is. He still has a presumption of innocence. But bail is usually a function of a person's resources and the seriousness of the crime. The crime he is charged with is very serious indeed.

Eddiejet, well said. He might be guilty and he might not (I confess that I smell a set-up) -- and if found guilty, there will be plenty of opportunity to punish him then.

Seems fair enough under the circumstances.

stealth_one, so how do you know for sure "he did it"? Think you misunderstand, he is innocent until proven guilty but in America if you are rich or a foreigner or ... You are guilty until proven innocent and then just being accused is an offense in itself.

Well actually I think the saying goes that if you're rich you can get away with anything. But people who usually say that don't put much thought into it so it's not surprising to hear the exact opposite opinion come out on a whim.

As for foreigners....? Not sure what you mean. Which cases are you speaking about? I'm guessing it's not Polanski since he pretty much got away with it.
