Of course, it wasn't a gun that killed anyone.

As the Steel Phallus cult keep reminding us, they could have been dispatched with a frozen mackerel or an Etch-a-sketch set, and were probably doomed to get rear-ended by a runaway truck anyway.

Of course he used a gun to kill. Rest assured he would have killed with a rope, hammer, knife or matches. This guy was after his own personal revenge. The gun rapport was not in his favor. The first deaths were reported due to gunfire. Who knows if he would have stopped when he did.

Blame the system which allows a guy like this to threaten his ex-wife the way he did. NOBODY should live under those conditions.

"Of course, it wasn't a gun that killed anyone."

No, it wasn't. It WAS a deeply distraught person. He indeed was a trained killer(Marine:Semper Fi). He was emotionally unhinged, and suffered PTSD like many. What he did was utterly despicable regardless of the method or tool. The woman who drove her car into water with her children inside did a likewise despicable act. Do you blame the car, too? Following your own logic you must.

Cars are essential tools for modern life. Guns are not. QED

"Cars are essential tools for modern life. Guns are not."

That's your opinion.

And it doesn't change the fact that murder with +any+ weapon is despicable.

A former Marine sergeant locked in a custody dispute so bitter that his ex-wife feared for her life - a guy well-known to be trained in weapons and ready to use them, yet nothing was done?! If waterboarding is not justified in this case, when is it?

Agreed.

Stone served in the Marines between 2002 and 2008 and deployed at least once to Iraq. He suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, friends and neighbors said.

“He was a great guy and an excellent father,” Lisa Andrey, a neighbor of Nicole Hill’s mother, told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “And then he went away to Iraq and came back and was a completely different man.”"

That is what often happens when soldiers return from the gory battlefield. No lessons learned from previous war veterans.

It's fact, not opinion. If we woke up tomorrow, and every car in the world had suddenly stopped working overnight, society would collapse, and millions would die.

If we woke up tomorrow and every gun in the world had suddenly stopped working overnight, society would be safer, and millions would not die.

Fact: Cars are essential tools for modern life. Guns are not.

Strangerland, spot on.

Cars are esential for human life. Parachutes are not. Personal watercraft is not. Baseball bats are not. Hammers are not. Outdoor knives are not. Box cutters are not. And guns are not. But they are a recreational tool and an Olympic sport to boot!

Back on topic please. Comments should focus on what is in the story.

@MarkG. All of those things have other uses and most make poor weapons. Not so with handguns. You can get a similar recreational experience with a BB gun.

What??? That is your opinion, but I don't think so. This guy was mentally finished, sad for those people he killed, at least now he can't hurt anyone anymore.

The anti-gun lobbyists would have you think a tool for self-defense is not necessary in today's world. Nutjobs.

The victims of this rampage could have stopped Stone themselves with one slug and saved their own family members' lives. Firearms give the weaker member of society a fighting chance against a determined attacker. THAT is a FACT! QED

It's nuts to think that guns are needed for this. Buy a baseball bat.

A grandma with a baseball bat versus a Marine with a kitchen knife. Uh huh.

Got this far in life without ever even touching a gun, for self-defence or any other reason. So yes, a gun is not necessary in today's modern, civilised world.

Some parts of the world, though, think they're still back in the Wild West. Best to avoid those parts.
