With every shot they fire, with every kill they make, they do nothing for their cause but to turn the world against them more.

May this young woman, who was defenseless, and working to improve the quality of life for people in her country, rest in peace.

When were the Taliban the least bit concerned with world opinion?

More medieval religious extremists. Utter nonsense and totally barbaric thoughts, beliefs and actions.

Such waste of life and spirit. Those responsible are even stupider than what typical human stupidity can account for.

The woman had been working on a Western-funded project designed to boost the quality of life in Afghanistan’s deprived villages by improving irrigation and the provision of drinking water, he added.

Hopeless. Their brand of Islam is opposed even to projects like this?

Usually we start with finding a perp. Then we move on to establishing a motive. Only then do we ask such questions, not before.

@Oracle: Let me give you a clue. If this had happened in a place like Japan, then your statement would be valid since there may have been other reasons why someone wanted this woman dead. But in Afg, you can assume that if a woman is killed in this manner, it is because some persons thought that she had violated the tenets of Islam. Whether she was doing something as simple as going to a school to learn to read, or visiting a medical clinic, or heaven forbid, seen walking with a male that was not related to her.

I say let the international community pull out of there, and let them sort out all of their problems themselves.

But Afghanistan is not a "usual" place where we can assume a "usual" Western societ. Banishing women from public life and allowing them only out in public under male supervision and in Burkhas (and certainly not to do work) is basic Taliban practise and doctrine, and not some sort of secret that we need to discover.

The Taliban are very clear on their threats to women on violate their religious law.

Maybe your world, but not their world. To their fellow religionists, they demonstrate determination and power. And they strike fear into the hearts of the unbelievers, exactly as they intend and as is prescribed for them.

Apparently you two think its impossible an 18 year old female might be killed in Afghanistan as a result of someone's jealousy or a rejected marriage proposal. How about a case of mistaken idenity?

And if it was the Taliban, and if it was as a result of doctrine, then whatever doctrine used to try and justify this should be refered to as Taliban tenets, not Muslim ones. Most Muslims are not doing stuff like this. Backwater crazy interpretations of Islam do not reflect on Islam as a whole, and do not deserve to be considered a "brand of Islam",particularly when it comes from a backwater that is full of Korans written in Arabic and a population that does not read Arabic.

Of course none of that changes the fact that you two are far too presumptive. I suggest reading some Sherlock Holmes.

That is because "most muslims" live in coutries where islamic laws do not apply. The Taliban, on the other hand, base their entire existance on the literal applicationi of islamic laws. As has been practised in Afghanistan undere Mujahedin rule. This article is not about "most" of anything, or about the whole world, it is about Afghanistan and what is happening in Afghanistan. Why do you ask us to ignore all context?

Quite a trick, since they cannot read Arabic. And quite a statement, since you only choose the English translations that suit your agenda.

Why do you ask us to ignore all context?

Why do you ignore facts and reality?
