A better reason to sin is to see what happens in our later lives.

'Sign painter Ruben Enaje, 53, had himself nailed to a cross at a dusty mound in Pampanga’s San Pedro Cutud village for the 28th year. He began his yearly rite after surviving a fall from a building. Men dressed as Roman soldiers hammered stainless steel nails into his palms and feet amid. A packed crowd of onlookers stood with cameras ready to capture the penitents’ agony.'

Will they also simulate the spear piercing his side?

Nutters.

I’ve had the chance to witness this spectacle firsthand and I can attest to the bizarre nature of the whole thing. In a way I found it kind of spooky. But after the weirdness started to wear off and I had some more Tanduay, I started to see a method in the madness.

First off, the article is accurate when it mentions thousands of people; it is a complete mob scene. People come from all over the Philippines as well as all over the world. And something they all have in common is that they get hungry, thirsty, need a place to stay and a way to get around.

This translates into a major boost to the local economy. I know a lady that runs a small pension house and carinderia in the area and her profits from Holy Week make a big difference in the quality of life for her family. The same thing is true for all kinds of mom and pop operations in the district. Even the beggars make out.

In a strange way, this is a good example of religion working to improve the lives of ordinary people and not just the church hierarchy. No wonder the Archbishop disapproves, he probably sees this kind of thing as cutting into his potential profits.

What? No. Jesus wouldn't have wanted this...

If JESUS died on the cross for OUR SINS, what the heck are these people doing??? They are not JESUS and none of these are Roman soldiers, so, maybe better to show your love for GOD by making more efforts to be a better PERSON in your daily life, says Dr.Dave!
