She was the most loyal of friends and a defender of gays in Hollywood when AIDS was new to the industry and beyond.

It was seeing Elizabeth Taylor in the movie National Velvet, when I was barely 10, that I knew I wasn't gay. She was fantastically beautiful to me.

The article does a great job with the main points of her epic life.

Elizabeth Taylor, a woman of wonderfully robust humor, drank for other reasons. She was proud of the fact that she could keep up with Burton, even drink him under the table. She was truly a man's woman, and she could drink, belch and swear with the best of them. It was, for her, an important antidote to her staggering beauty and hothouse upbringing. It made her human. It kept her real. We will miss her.

When I was just a young lad I was invited to a party at a club in New York and a friend pointed her out while she chatting with someone. She looked so elegant and beautiful and I just stood there slack-jawed, in awe.

A great lady but a very bady written article. It jumps around too much chronologically. It's like some kids first junior high scholl report.

When you were 10 Yabits? Some will deny that such feelings can even exist at that age, but I know exactly what you are talking about. My tastes have changed a lot over the years, but Taylor, with her hourglass figure, also caught my eye about that time.

As I got older I gained a healthy respect for her as a great human being though. One thing I remember clearly is her standing by Michael Jackson when the world was against him. She could have abandoned him for politics rather than truth, like so many sad people do. Now everybody with half a brain knows that MJ's accuser was a small time con-man with a record.

@MrDog- I politely disagree. This is the 4th article and by far the best I have read today. It covers everything. I dont feel the chronology is important at all. It reads much like her life was lived.

It's wonderful to know she didn't die alone, and she was very much loved the world over. Rest in peace, Liz.

She was great as Fred Flintstone's mother-in-law. RIP.

Was never a huge fan (although she was indeed gorgeous), but it is absolutely true that Hollywood has lost a giant, and the world has lost a true character. RIP.

Mr Burton was probably the great love of her life. For all their disagreements, I think she really loved him.

Great actress and person. LIved her life as she wanted in many ways. Still fun to watch her earlier movies.

Today I bought a used DVD of Cleopatra, starring Ms. Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison. I guess it's about time I saw this.

Liz coasted on her looks from the 60s on in (except for Woolf in '67). Her best stuff was all before that esp. in "Cat". "Butterfield 8" is a yawnfest, another pity Oscar for missing out when she at her best. Still, end of an era, another baby boomer icon bites the dust.

A true legend who got involved in the 1980's fight against AIDS when few others cared.

Every time I get annoyed at my wife I play a video of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe" and after seeing Liz I'm reminded how quiet and subdued the woman I married is.
