Cubans only need to set foot on U.S. soil to gain entry.

Lovely. A "reverse" Bay of Pigs invasion. This could only be a result of obama's restoring diplomatic relations with cuba. Which has eased and removed travel restrictions for these "economic" migrants seeking a "better" life in the United States of America.

8,000 for now. According tho costa rican officials, this was only a trial run. So how many more are coming? Aren't we expecting tens of thousands of refugees from syria/eastern europe too? Its nonsense.

Obama was 5 years old when the Cuban Adjustment Act of 1966 was passed, which essentially allows anyone who flees Cuba and enters the United States to pursue residency a year later. It's amazing how far back in time his influence extends

The article is vague, but it appears they're simply walking across the border and presenting themselves to Immigration - which is on US soil, so by law, they must be admitted.Seems to me that law is very anachronistic and should be revised or scrapped - but guess which party would howl in protest if Obama suggested doing so. (Hint: the party with two candidates whose fathers took advantage of America's "special" relationship with Cuban emigrants.)

Man oh man, I think someone better get used to the taste of crow between now and the election. Maybe it tastes good sitting in a booby trapped bunker.

It's amazing that "all of a sudden" these so-called cuban political refugees are crossing into the US.

8,000 cubans coming into the US all at once hasn't been seen in News Headlines since around the time Oliver Stone's "Scarface" was released.

Wc, normalizing relations with Cuba has nothing to do with the rise in Cuban immigration - notice how Cubans still need a visa to enter the US, which very few can get. If you want to blame anyone, blame President Raul Castro, who ended tough travel restrictions starting in 2013. Now, Cubans can travel outside their country without an exit visa; all they need is a passport, just like those from most modern countries. So instead of risking the perilous trip by boat across the Florida Straits, they can just show up at any crossing from Mexico.

So get angry at Castro's steps towards freedom if you'd like, or Congress' inaction on the law, but Obama has nothing to do with it.

A purpose of the original law anyways was to encourage Cuban political refugees escaping persecution off the oppressive Castro Cuba and side with the US.

So in a way, it's just serving its original purpose.

It was made as a strike against Castro.

If they don't like it, maybe it's time to change the law.
