Wow... imagine if they doled out such harsh penalties for corruption in Japanese politics and/or companies instead of just giving them higher positions in government!
(more) Seriously, though, this is way too extreme. They probably didn't pay the right bribes to the right people and/or screwed over the government somehow to get sentences like this.
