One of the classiest and most committed First Ladies ever, even for such a short time. R.i.P. Betty Ford.

Hard to believe anyone would use the death of this great woman as a plug for the Republican party, but I guess that is the modern face of the party, marred and far astray as it is.

Betty Ford was a great woman, who can be admired, not for who or what she was, but rather for what she overcame, and the courage her example gave to others. Her inspiration saved thousands of lives, as well as the families of those struggling with their problems. Truly a great woman who leaves behind a great legacy.

I've close first-hand experience with alcoholism, and the memories of my loved one "living in a stupor, shuffling around in her bathrobe, refusing meals in favor of a drink" sent shivers up my spine. Bless her for her candor, her courage to change herself, and her humanity in offering that gift to others.

You use it to denigrate Republicans. Her husband was very much of the "modern face of the party." That is why Chevy Chase and the SNL crew mocked him the way they did.
