As John McClane would say, welcome to the party, pal.
kokorocloud
I understand their anger, but things can only go further downhill from here.
genji17
Let the assassins loose on all members of al qaida. James bond type sh@t! You know all our countries got them. Let them loose, old west style.
MistWizard
You apparetnly watch too much James Bond genji. If there were even ten such men in the world al-Quaida would have been done for before they even started.
Kapuna
MistWizard, too true!
genji17
ah I guess so...just wishful thinking. Fighting terror is a fight you cant win...just tired of hearing about so much violence.
Sad thing is, what are the stats on these foreign trained nationals that the west trains to fight terrorists, then using these tactics and becoming terrorists themselves?
meandmybigmouth
Too little, too late....just like the French.
HonestDictator
As I said, when other countries get sick and tired of the PC game and finally realise the truth, the gloves will eventually come off and they will eventually throw the "laws" out the window. I remember about a few years back someone said, "When we have real peace in the world, people will fight savagely to keep it."
mikehuntez
Welcome to the real world France.
WilliB
While France is chasing Al-Quaide around in third world countries, France itself is rapidly becoming an islamic republic.
Truly a bizarre situation.
jruaustralia
Can't wait for a Japanese declaration on AQ too, like nine years late o.0
ilcub76
When did the French grow some cajones? With their history of capitulation to the enemy, this is quite a surprise!
limboinjapan
MistWizard genji17 is right about the fact that every country has these type of guys (maybe not so James Bond-ish) but we do have then.
The problem is if we use them the so-called "human rights" groups will have a fit if we do.
Just look at their reaction on finding out through the leaked Afghanistan documents and the revelation that there is a special unit with a list of 70 or so terrorist leaders to be hunted down and killed or captures if possible.
They are already screaming about this unit being a "hit scad" no trial or jury and these people's (and I use the term people very broadly) rights.
France has a large Muslim population and as such was reluctant to take a to hard line on this issue but with things getting worse domestically and now its citizens being targeted internationally its present government finds itself in a position that it now has enough support domestically to actually act on this.

3 words... French Foreign Legion
888naff
"Too little, too late....just like the French."
....just like the Americans!
but this is just words they have already been fighting and spending their countries resources on this.
MrDog
I'm confused.
Before or after?
Madverts
willi,
"While France is chasing Al-Quaide around in third world countries, France itself is rapidly becoming an islamic republic."
Heh, only in your anti-islamic conspiracy world, with the reality on the groung being the exact opposite.
Madverts
A strange title for the thread, France has been at war with al-Qaida since the invasion of Afghanistan. Then President Jacques Chirac was the first foreign head of state to fly over the ruins of the WTC....
TumbleDry
Wait for attacks in markets in Mauritania, Mali, Niger and Algeria.
Algeria has already a big fundamentalist problem.
Expect even attacks in France itself.
Almost all western countries felt in the fundamentalist trap. Maybe people would realize this is not a conventional war that can't be win by just a annihilating some other country. Sending them flowers won't work either.
TumbleDry
The French sent a search and destroy team but the hostage was nowhere to be found. Learning that the French tried to save the hostage, they decided to execute him.
Before France declaring war against al-Halluf
genji17
....just like the Americans!<
To what bail the French out as soon as they have an attack on their soil?? IE Germany ?
dano2002
How long before they surrender?
nandakandamanda
Oooh. Once upon a time Don Quixote tilted at some windmills. Scary stuff!
miyazawa3
It is too late now , France has to be very carefull with muslims in france and not to hurt them anyway.
omik
“It’s important to make that kind of announcement,” Francois Gere said. “I think it’s made of the same stuff” as former U.S. President George W. Bush’s tough line on al-Qaida.
This says it all....
Sarge
"France has been at war with al-Qaida since the invasion of Afghanistan"
Not according to the French. The French prime minister just announced this yesterday.
Foxie
Great headline - but I am waiting for 'Liechtenstein declares war against al-Qaida'
SuperLib
Well I can't say I was expecting to see that headline.
TheQuestion
It's not a private fight, anyone can join.
tigermoth
Wonder if they'll do as well as they did in 1914 or 1940? Perhaps they could parachute in mimes to bore al-Qaida to death. It is odd how a country with such a crappy record of fighting could produce some of the toughest troops in the world (French Foreign Legion) - but then I don't think very many of them are French.
FromEurope
Don't get fooled. Sarkozy has too many problems, so he wants the people's attention to be outside of the country. Also, he wanted to rescue the hostage in a secret mission, but it failed. Now he has no choice than to perform the revenger. 2 birds with one stone thing...
fishy
starting war for political reasons.. what an idiot Sarkozy.. shame on you.
lostrune2
France shouldn't have declared war. They've never declared a war they can't surrender. Quiet war may have sufficed better.
FromEurope
All the wars were started for political reasons.
Nessie
The seek them here, they seek them there.
Them Frenchies seek them everywhere.
Yumimoto
Who does Sarkozy think he is fooling ? France is fighting Al-Quaida since September 11. Man, this guy is really the worst and most dishonest french president that ever lived.
To WILLI,
"While France is chasing Al-Quaide around in third world countries, France itself is rapidly becoming an islamic republic."
Please explain to me how is France becoming an islamic republic...
Madverts
"Please explain to me how is France becoming an islamic republic..."
Yes, I'd appreciate further clarification too.
Willi?
fishy
FromEurope-
yes i know and yes you are right, and that is why i don't support any war. and i'm angry especially because france is my second home.
FromEurope
fishy - As I said, it's just Sarkozy's stage performance. He has a big problem with Woerth-Bettencourt case. He wants the people to talk about something else. In a few weeks, he won't talk about the "War against A.Q." anymore.
FromEurope
Actually, no media in France talk about this "War against A.Q." anymore.
MisterCreosote
France is fighting al-Qaida.They declared a war on em. If I understand the majority of people on this website that is proof that France created al-Qaida.
