Even if Israel comes to the table, they will just sabotage the talks anyway. France should not make ultimatums, but just support the Palestinians outright.

You can't support Palestinians without being told that you are supporting terrorists and that you are insensitive to the lives of Israeli that they live always under threat and in great danger.

    HonestDictator

Thats not true Afroengineer xD. Hamas is a group, Palestinians are a people.

I hope that wasn't true HonestDictator but Hamas have made peace with Fatah and now the unified government who will come out of it will be seen as terrorists.I would also like to tell you that not everybody sees Hamas as a terrorist group. And finally come on, what can some rockets fired randomly harm anyone. How many got killed by them? Most of the times they fell in open grounds without any damage and those who fired them do it out of despair.Israel having one of the most powerful army in the world can't play the victim. If you are really honest you will see it my friend ;)

Why does no-one insist that Mr Abbas engage seriously in a meaningful peace process by unambiguously renouncing – in English AND Arabic – his repeated claims that his people will never accept Israel as a Jewish state?

As for certain world leaders expressing hope that Hamas will assume a peaceful posture, have we seen even a tiny sign that that may happen?

Ah you lost me when you said "what can some rockets (and mortars and suicide bombings) fired randomly harm anyone"...Its about as harmless as a mine field that children go and play in. Point is nobody should be shooting anything at anyone PERIOD. That is where Hamas lost their value by keeping up their rhetoric, thus Isreal keeps up its rhetoric. Its a circle that just keeps going round and round and round... Keep in mind Both sides are to blame. I do hope there will be a Palistinian state, but should those "harmless" attacks keep up afterwards it will be designated as an act of war on both sides should one attack another and will instigate another 1967 war.

"what can some rockets fired randomly harm anyone."

Jesus. Whilst I'm glad to sit on the fence on this particular issue, apologists for terrorism such as afro are shocking. Then again, you can't possibly really believe that.

Return to peace talks or we will recognize a state that refuses to recognize you! It's just funny how these things work out sometimes.

@HonestDictator, I agree that both are to blame.I meant that the strongest side has more power to make things change than the weak one. @Madverts, did I say anywhere that shooting rockets was correct?quote me and show it to me please.I mean't these rockets don't harm as much as the missiles launched by Tsahal. The statistics are here(how many rockets did how much damage). But anyway I know my answer won't convince you so feel free to understand in my words whatever you want.

    afroengineer:

I suggest YOU live next to a territory from which they lob rockets at your town at regular intervals. And the government of which has it written in their constitution that your country has no right to exist and your population be driven in the sea.

Then come back and tell us a little of terrorism is OK.

afroengineer - And finally come on, what can some rockets fired randomly harm anyone. How many got killed by them? Most of the times they fell in open grounds without any damage and those who fired them do it out of despair.

The lack of success on the part of the Palastinian terrorist rocket launchers is not the fault of the intended victims. The Palastinians voted for Hamas. They support their terrorist government. The Palastinians are calling for the destruction of Israel. Israel has no intention of allowing that.

You have no reason to believe that Hamas and Fatah won't turn on each other again. Or on any country that helps them.

France wants Israel to recognize the Hamas/Fatah government but is not expecting the Palastinians to recognise Israel right to exist????? France will help promote the international recognition of a Palestinian state. They're not going to create one.

Germany isn't going to recognize a terrorist state. The U.S. and the rest of Europe isn't going to recognize a terrorist state.

@WillB, Read my answer to Madverts and you will see nowhere that terrorism is ok.I said that as HonestDictator said that BOTH sides are to blame.I said that if Israel could make an effort to just stop the settlements and resume peace talks it would be good. That was the condition of Mahmoud Abbas.Israel is far far more powerful than Hamas. And as I need to be more clear :

    • Shooting rockets is bad

    • These rockets rarely hit anything

where does this terrorist supporters label come from? O_o

    afroengineer

@arrestpaul, I didn't know that Fatah was a terrorist organization.Mahmoud Abbas is for a 2 states solution or you know something I don't know?

The military wing of Fatah Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades is certainly not a peace-seeking entity (read its reaction to the death of obl).Abu Mazen himself has repeatedly said his people will never accept Israel as a Jewish state. This is of course also in Hamas' charter. Why on earth should Israel sit down with people who refuse to even recognise her right to exist? Shouldn't some of the pressure from France and eslewhere be on these groups to recognise Israel?

    arrestpaul

afroengineer - Israel is far far more powerful than Hamas.

Which is why Israel still exists. Hamas has been demanding the destruction of Israel since it's inception and WILL NOT settle for anything less. Israel has tried to negotiate with Palestinian leadership but unless Israel agrees to it's own destruction, there's no deal possible. Ever. And the Palestinians voted for Hamas.
