Too long ago? There is as much evidence now as there was then. Time has nothing to do with it unless you live in a dream world.

"There is as much evidence now as there was then."
Yup. There is none. He admitted trying to kiss her, and the prosecuter is bypassing the legal system and claiming it sexual assault, and dismissing it over the French statute of limitations.
Strange to see the least, but I congratulate all inviolved for the waste of public money to a judicial system that is already absolutely in peniury.

Too long ago?? So this makes it ok?? For shame! France needs a reality check.

Maybe not enough to satisfy modern courts. But one day, the ability of some people to tell who is a liar might be more appreciated.
Sounds kind of like you believe him. I found that strange since DSK always says nothing happened before he makes his lttle admission tailored to the claims.
If she had a black eye, he would say it was because she said she liked it rough. If she had two black eyes, he would say it was because he had to remind her it was consensual...twice! Or something like that.
So you think they should have gone for attempted rape then? Even harder to prove because then you would have to guage intent.
If it were you or I though, I doubt the lesser charge would be applied. We would be going to court and our statements on the stand would be closely scrutized. And odds are our words would not be carefully scripted by high priced lawyers.
Yes, and that is unfortunate. I sure would have liked to see him take the stand so I could use that footage as an example of the facial expressions of a liar.
Not every case will have a satisfactory ending. It was worth a shot. Next similar case might have droves of women coming forward. I sort of expected to see that with this case, and I am surprised we didn't. But it was about the only way to chase those rabbits out from the briar patch.
I am just sad over the mixed message this sends. Women should feel free to take honest claims to court, but it does not mean the truth will be discovered, and in cases like this, it usually isn't. How do you prove intent? Its not something you can bag and tag. Even DNA evidence will not win you the day, as the New York maid's case proves. On the one hand, mere claims can mess up your life. But just by saying it was consensual, even in the most unlikely of circumstances, you can avoid jail. Its all a very horrible mixed message.

"It was worth a shot."
Rubbish.
It was his word against hers without a scrap of evidence. 9 years later. No prosecuter in her/his right mind should have taken on such stupidity. The waste of police and the courts time is simply an outrage to this French tax-payer.
And the only reason she brought the charges were because at the time, she along with the rest of us thought he would be an un-willing US resident for many years to come, and that it would be nice and safe to prosecute him from his newfound sanctuary Rykers Island.
"ts not something you can bag and tag. Even DNA evidence will not win you the day, as the New York maid's case proves."
Proves? The NYC case was dropped by the prosecution. Heh, you do understand that the prosecutors role is not only to decide whether charges should be brought, but also to see a conviction at the end of hearings? Can you grasp that if the prosecution abandoned the case, and because of issues related to the credibility of the accuser, that it was not only a blow to the pride of the prosecution, but that the truth was she was a coniving piece of work. The launch of her civil case before the criminal case are enough to prove reasonable doubt of her cash-seeking intentions.
DSK is an old, rich pervert. I live in France and follow French politics and everybody knows this. It doesn't mean that evidence, and facts - should not apply in attempts to prosecute him. Bannon sought fame and the maid sought money. Neither were honest as you say.

correction;
"the launch of her civil case before the end of the criminal case"

Because the prosecution knows how things work. It does not mean anything more than that. Her case was sabotaged by credibility, something which is irrelevant. To say otherwise is to say that immigrants with false records have an open season on them for rape, and this what is being said. Meanwhile, they did not go after DSK's cred. That would have, and should have, happened in a courtroom. But like I say, it was not a point of justice. It was a point of how the machine works. And the machine needs fixed badly. Its not the job of the prosecution to fix it, nor to destroy their own reputations trying.
And you used my sentence falsely as you well know.
There is evidence. Its written on DSKs face. Liars and lies can be spotted. But courts have no appreciation for that kind of evidence yet. And that is why so many rapes go unreported and people like DSK get off.

Got nothing to do with anything. Any rape victim has a right to the kind of justice he or she wants. What you would want in his or her place proves nothing. If a rape victim wants a payout, its their priviledge and it only proves the kind of retribution they want on their attacker. But of course a faker would also do that. But to think she was a faker is just preposterous. It just does not pan out that it was consensual. And that is another type of evidence the court won't accept; logical analysis, which to me is a damn sight better than cred. There is no way you can explain that to be a consensual encounter. There is no way you could cobble together believable details to make that explanation in the maid's case.
