You see, you see! The government still won`t listen to the people and keep the retirement age at 60. The elitists do what they want. Democracy? sure. Keep fighting protesters.

We will soon learn what this so called Democracy is about when the feds become fed up and start abusing and illegally subduing people. Police states are the future if people don`t fight back in the masses.

all this by young people over a 2 year difference and on a government retirement plan at that.. Get your own retirement plan, its a lot better

It is nice to see people unite against a Government that they feel is corrupt. People in France feel that they are the owners of Gov and not the other way around. I hope the French people are able to make changes to their Gov without resorting to the historical chopping of heads.

These strikers need to be fired, and these hooded youths who smashed store windows need to have some of their belongings smashed, and spend some time in jail.

Get educated, become a professional and then they could retire at the 50 if they so choose to or become a consultant and work till your 90.

If protesters keep acting like they do nations will start dealing with them like China does. Not a nice way but by the looks of it the protesters deserve nothing nice. I say shoot on site anyone inciting violence and destruction.

A right to retire? What right to retire at a given age? This whole thing is loopy. Seems like the French will do anything to avoid work and the French youth will use any excuse to riot.

That's ridiculous ! We cannot accept that in a democracy. "Your" rights are not more important than the right of others like the shop owner who has his window smashed and his shop robbed. Democracy has been invented to avoid civil wars. But this is possible only with educated people.

Some politicians in France play with fire. Calling young people to go on the street and protest is simply a sign of irresponsability. A great number of teenagers are in a reaction against the system, against authority, against their parents. Young citizens are used by stupid adults as the ultimate weapon : push them in the streets and everything is out of control. Might one of them be injured : we have a martyr ! They are assassinating our children !

Like any mass protest, a huge percentage are just using any old excuse to go out and cause damage, and whine that they can't get what they want out of life without any work, effort, or risk.

Get used to it Europe, (and soon too follow U.S.) that's what happens when you promise people free stuff in order to get elected. Once you reach a tipping point, where less than half are called on to provide to more than half, havoc will result. When you don't deliver, grown up children get angry and aggressive, like little kids throwing a tantrum when you take away their ice cream.

And so ends Western Civilization. Not by invasion, or famine, by a bunch of grown spoiled kids crying that you took away their free stuff.

Badsey is right. They are protesting because they think their government is corrupt. Nobody would be protesting if they thought the decision was being made for the good of the country, it would be a no-brainer to raise the age to 62 in that case. But they think the decision is not being made for the good of the country, it is being made so that the money can be siphoned off elsewhere, and they are right. And if things start getting out of hand and kids join in and riot, hey as Rumsfeld said "stuff happens". Sarkozy made his bed, now he can lie in it.
