Now we have McCain pounding little fist the podium and condeming Russia. Rant...rant...rant...
Now John McCain says we are all Georgians.
The killing goes on until Russia pulls it's troops back. When Russia finally gets the results that they are looking for, then they will stop their incursion. It won't be the G-7 who stops Russia.
I don't think the theft of oil has much to do with the cease-fire in South Ossetia. However, there are many ways to steal oil. One way is to make sure that your own country's oil companies (and those of your buddies) get all the oil contracts.
It seems to me, however, that adaydream's main point is that Bush is the wrong man to carry the message to the Russians that they must stop their aggression. Bush would certainly be the most nuclear-armed man to carry that message. He just wouldn't be the most credible one. If the Russians stop on this account it is likely because of the difficulty in fighting and belly-laughing at the same time.
[I don't think the theft of oil has much to do with the cease-fire in South Ossetia. However, there are many ways to steal oil. One way is to make sure that your own country's oil companies (and those of your buddies) get all the oil contracts]
He who does not use oil throw the first stone!!
I'm smelling a conspiracy in this one... I think America has something to do with this... S. Ossetia violence. I'm convinced. I bet the Russians are there to steal oil for GWB and his American facists!!
undecidedbout08 - george bush initially gave the contracts for the oil fields to the Big Five petroleum corp. It was a done deal.
Problem, when the Iraqi government came into being they took them back because george bush could not give away Iraqi interest. That's why they have $79Billion in the bank.
Yep, he intended to spend that money on reconstruction too. Right. Well, actually wrong there.
But this is about the cease fire that France's President Sarcozy brokered between Russia and Georgia. The one that george bush couldn't even get a response to.
The G-7 didn't broker this either. It was President Sarcozy who had the clout and standing that it took to pull these two sides together, at least for a cease fire.
I'm not sure the shots have really been stopped or how far they have drawn back, but it's a start. < :-)
Skop O am positive China woudl side with Russia, no doubts about it because they sure are not a western allie.. I do not see where you come up with that remark or idea from my post.... I see Russia and China as partners and two that see the world against them and to not be partners would seem to be something crazy. They both want and think they can eventually use their power for gains, such as China with Taiwan, and Russia with its old satiloite colonies it took by force in the past. I am absolutely sure Russia and China are continually grinding thier teeth over these issues of control of others.. That is why I link them together in my statement. We have brought both to where they are to day, they are wealthy becuase of us and now we are to suffer from bringing them to this point.. That is how our greedy political leaders have failed us as leaders.
adaydream.. I see a big difference than Georgia and Iraq. One is Bushes Idea of controlling an oil nation. but also against a dictator suppressing minorities and genocide against minorities.. Georgia. a democracy faced by overwhelming force from I still have to say is a super power, maybe not to the extent that we are but still the power to very easily overwhelm the Georgian military, as we witnessed already in such a short time.
But besides all that, there is a big difference. Do you come from or support democracy ???
There is another issue I had heard about the invasion of Iraq and that was to establish some permanent bases to counter check China as to having a back door to them incase their rise is not as they are always claiming as to be peaceful, as we are watching them develop their military to the max. So I believe there are some major differences and the main one is an attack on a democracy and an ally…
undecided... geez... Republicans democrats... I have to laugh at the plain deceptive words being used.. A year ago, the democrats were right with the conclusions about the war.. and do you know why?????? The administration from the start never put in the troops that was said needed to take control of the situation created by the invasion of Iraq, not until there were almost 4,000 troops killed and the country was still in chaos after .. how many years of being there and troops continually being slaughtered because of the administration's incompetence. At that time you mention. A year ago. the democrats, were right at that point of time on the issue. The democrats even knew the facts of not enough US force to begin with but would Bush and his war hungry planners listen to the experts and commanders on the ground?? Hell no!!!!! Put the blame were it belongs and that is with those that would not take advise from those who knew what was needed on the ground and waited for 5 years and after 4,000 troops were killed to take corrective actions to get control inside Iraq.. Although I support in every way the democracy and wanting to be a NATO member by Georgia, I believe Georgia should have never taken aggressive actions towards Ossetia at a point where they had no readiness to combat Russia’s actions from such an assult towards the city. This also goes along with what the Bush administration did as sticking to a wrong course for 5 years and just after 6 months of finally going with the reasoning that was told to them from the start makes them right since the beginning when they were wrong from the start up.. I think not! They are the ones responsible for the unnecessary deaths of 4000 troops.
I think now it is time for Georgia to demand international protection and a military build up to secure their democracy and have NATO commit to their help in securing their democracy and security from others that oppose them and threaten them., or this can happen again and again.
TonyUS - Your response justifies a pre-emptive strike and destroying a country? By the way, I'd love to see that link.
But this article is about the attack of Georgia, because Russia wants to split up Georgia and get some control of the oil pipeline. They want to take back what they lost. < :-)
They want to take back what they lost but took by force to begin with and that is wrong. This is the same mentality as China, so what do we do play along with Russia as we do with China and say OK all is fine do as you please. I think both countries need to be put back in their places. If wanting to be and act as countries that do not have to stand on a moral base then they can be put out to pasture on their own, and we see where they ended up in the past. They were nothing except a threat but economically they collapsed as we grew.
You call that a pre-emptive strike?
And if you would like to see that report I suggest you stay up with the news and reports because it was on the national news remarkably since they are very well self censored when it comes to international events, just take a look at reports about China and its military, the suppression of its people, the detention , disappearances of dissidents, on and on and on, but the US people never hear the bad elements about China as they are our biggest supplier and the no. one as part of our over 700 billion dollar trade deficit.
As for a pre-emptive strike, I believe pre-empt is too late since Russia has already taken that incentive upon itself, as Russia has already invaded and has place military there as peacekeepers to start with.
I say NATO should pour as many troops, equipment and artillery as needed into Georgia and tell Russia to get the hell out and arm it to the max along with all the other break away Baltic provinces. We now see, maybe a little to late these break away provinces are under real threat from Russia. Ever since Putin come into light in Russia the face of Russia has taken a very dramatic change, and that was not for the good. As Bush looked into his soul, he looked right past the KGB element of the guy and the dictator leaning elements of his rule, now how stupid can someone be!
Well adaydream. as you may wish to see people under a dictatorship, the reason of establishing permanent bases below China plus the reason of people living under a regime where they only feared for their lives was plenty enough reason for me to go along with over throwing Sadam Hussien, but with a plan to take control which Bush and his buddies did not have in their plans as we seen for over 4 years as soldier after soldier was added to the list of casualties. Sorry I am not a republican and definitely will not vote any republicans in for any position this trip, but that does not make me shy away from the pushing forward of the standards and norms that the US has always stood for. Oh yeah one other thing you may wish to ignore and that is the situation of the oil for food program which Kofianan’s son made bunches and bunches of illegal money from and all the illegal deals France , Germany had going on that same time with Iraq worth billions that was also against the same resolutions they helped to get established trying to keep Iraq from going forward with their weapons program. There was a lot of BS going on with UN security resolutions being broken and governments making big money behind the scenes which final came to light afterwards, but I guess that does not matter as well. Time to take and REMEMBER all the facts when opening up a topic and not shut out or ignore some of the main facts that also played a part in decisions. And.. also as Sadam Hussien flourished in his wealth and many palaces while his people suffered before and especially after sanctions and UN resolutions, I guess this is good too or should have no consideration in the disposal of him.. I just don’t get some peoples thinking when it comes to other human beings, I really don’t! Hmmm then remember the money found that he had horded up that was used to pay Iraqi’s wages , police // Seems you wish to forget a lot of the facts and conditions at that time, but most of all forget the human factor, not that so many had been killed since, but again I blame the Bush administration for that as well from being so incompetent and deaf to those that told them to go in with more troops to take and keep control of the situation. I do see Iraq becoming a much better place now than what it was before/// finally !!!!!!!! But I am wondering if Bush did not go in what Iraq and its people would be today? I was against the war after… I saw How incompetent the administration was fighting it and that was a definite, but I will also admit I was for it for the sake of the people before it started. Considering Georgia in all of this and what had went on during , or should say after desert storm after the Iraq invasion of Kuwait, this situation with Georgia seems almost impossible for the US alone to take any action and with the sleazy factors that involved some of our Allies during the Iraq situation, but if all would come together in unity, they could force Russia to get out of Georgia for good along with the rest of the breakaway republics.. Where is the nations of NATO??
You stance seems to be everyone for themselves, I find that a little self oriented and that too is not what America stands for. US should stand for national security and the security of the weak that do not have the means to defend themselves, and throughout history that is what we were seen as being based on. Sadly enough the greed factor has come to make a bigger impact on the leaders making decisions these days or we would not have so much interaction with China as they crush and destroy Tibetans and their culture, or point over a thousand missiles at democratic Taiwan threatening to take them by force if necessary, and all the restrictions upon its people as a society that has been and still shaped and formed from some ideology that we have never favored anywhere in the world.
Right is right, wrong is wrong, I am finding it difficult to see where you stand.. seems to me you stand for oneself and forget anyone else.
I have said if it was Georgia that made the first move or attack, they should not have done so when they do not have the capability to defend their moves, and it is definite fact that they do not.
TonyUS - Have a great day. I totally disagree with you on so many issues in your post, I won't even start to debate it.
You have your opinions.
I still see that Russia will run unabated in Geoirgia. They will do what they intend to do with very little influence or recognize any warnings from george bush.
yeah Proud. and who to makle a ceasefire deal with in Iraq? Everyone from every country of every ethinic base?? Maybe US ceasefire and all go to hell with in hours..

You mean you have no reply.
It was a simple question. Iraq has a surplus of 79 billion dollars. How can this be if Bush supposedly 'stoled all a duh oil'?
Only a year ago the most powerful Democrats in Congress were saying Iraq and the war against the 'insurgency' were lost causes...
Maybe you forget, but we remember.

That is reason number 23 I guess for attacking Iraq. I always like hearing more crap.
We see what the G-7 has done. Absolutely nothing. We see what george bush has gotten done, again absolutely nothing.
Russia has watched this country be the bully on the block and they have taken good notes.
This country has been snubbed by Russia in this case. Just like when Russia was telling the United States to not attack Iraq over WMD.
I'm just glad we didn't have the troops to attack Iran. < :-)
