I like the foundation, but this is a weird idea and a waste of money.

Good idea, but they're forgetting poor people need to spend money to survive too. Remember the paycheck to paycheck problem? Cost of living may include having to pay insurance for a vehicle, or if they don't own a car, the rising cost of public transportation may be another factor, last but not least is the s**t happens scenarios that have perfect timing at screwing up finances when one is actually able to save some money. I understand that people can save if they cut back on unecessary things such as cable/dish TV or eating out on fast food restaurants (it does add up each month), but if they're not doing those things and still can't save enough money then nothing can help except for the ability to try to make more money.

Thanks Gates Foundation, for helping the the poor. Giving food,is not the way. Short term solution,to the problem.
Poor nations, should be know, how to make food, whether via china joint venture like factories or via local agriculture.
It's continued life long education to improve a nation's economy.
If poor nations, invest in themselves and in improving their intelligence, they will solve problem easier.
High thinking and living according to own means,is the one way. Actually no one can make any nation poor. It is lack of good leaders, low knowledge and high ignorance in poor nations, that make them have shorter life expectancy. Same in rich nations too, lack of good leaders, low knowledge and other woes, could shorten their life expectancy.
No one can eat more than one plate of food,at a time.
Is being rich, eating many plates of food,to get unhealty?
Rich are not actually rich in knowledge, sometimes.

Why doesn't the boy wonder just give the poor the $500 million and ask them to save it. It's not that poor people don't have the common sense to save money - they just don't have it to save (that's what the whole poor thing means Billy Boy).

Whilst I agree with your sentiment on Gate's plan, even if you gave the money to the poor you know they'd spunk the lot. That's why they're poor. Even if the radcial left got what they wanted and distributed ther wealth, the coin would be back in the same hands within 10 years or less.
