South ossetia has only a population of 70,000. This problems can be solved if world nations/UN offer good jobs to families of the 70,000 people.
The problem is the well being of the 70,000 south ossetians,if they get richer in foreign nations, the problem can be reduced.

The United States has created a situation that has only angered the Russians and their retaliation was so unexpected and with so much force that they took the US and Georgia by surprise.
The United States stepped on their crank when they encouraged Georgia to flex their muscles and then Georgia screwed up when they thought that the United States would be the calvary.
Russia's not leaving any time soon. < :-)

European Union leaders will not decide to impose sanctions on Russia at their summit next week in Brussels, even though some EU countries have pushed for them, French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s office said Friday. Putin turned to a sausage analogy to say Moscow is not afraid.
The Euros were awaring the Russians will server the supply of natural gas to western Europe that keeps them warm! EU was a hypocritic forum always love lecturing high morale standard but selfish their own interests! When Russia China showing angers over their 'noise making' the Euros knows it's time to shutup!

It's about time Georgia got in line.
The War Between the States ended over 140 years ago. Why have they insisted until now on having their own diplomatic ties rather than allow the federal government to do so.
Geesh! Folks in Atlanta are so uppity.

If this wasn't all so serious we could imagine Pushy Putin as a comedian. You know, straight faced and all.

If the South Ossetians want independence, what is the problem? I seem to remember Georgia proper wanted independence not so long ago. Funny how quickly people forget.
I wanted independence too, long ago. I said so and the big chief got all angry. Some tried to stop me from leaving and I had to fight my way out. I don't know why they reacted that way. But what I do know is that after being unfrozen and graduating law school, I had a legal right to leave and could have sued them for everything they owned.

South Osetia is not going to become independent.Russia has annexed it and it's going to be absorbed into Russia.

Hun; bush and then McCain aint gonna allow that to happen, no way buddy.
Georgia was right to sever ties with a country that resorts to aggression to achieve its targets.

Most South Ossetians want to be part of Russia apparently, ie that is what they want to do with their independence. I would like to see South Ossetia go through a period of independence first. But I don't think Georgia is going to let that happen. Remember, they threw the first punch and for what reason? They want the land? Russia might be hasty, but Georgia gave them the excuse.
Georgia is severing ties with itself? That will be interesting.

The Georgian President for all his education should have acted with more thought. Of course his actions would have brought Russian combat forces rolling down the main street. He simply miscalculated the extent to which the Russians were prepared to move on his country. If you live next to the lion's cage don't keep sticking your finger between the bars and expect not to be bitten.

This is oversimplified as an analogy. I assume the Georgians would be pleased to let the Ossetians "leave". What they don't want is to have their land and natural and man-made resources "taken". I'm not taking sides here, but pointing out that it's not nearly as simple as you try to make it.

The US shot themselves in the foot when they attacked Iraq. It's kinda silly for the US to complain about Russia when george bush attacked Iraq for less than honorable reasons.
Now we're tied up in Iraq and even if we really needed to assist Georgia militarily, we couldn't. We're virtually defenseless. < :-)

adaydream; iran was attacked to depose a ruthless dictator, and ensure he can no longer use WMD.
Georgia was invaded aggressively by Russia in an aim to land grab Soviet style.
The US liberated a country and piad billions to rebuild the infrastructure neglected by Saddam.

Oh boy, this is not good.
American power and prestige have declined markedly while Russia’s has risen proportionately.
The Georgian alternative to the Russian pipeline will be decidedly less important than it would have been had Georgia been able to secure control over the region.
In other words, we just got our @sses kicked.
Thank you Mr. Bush.

The western world was furious due to their interests was dissloved! The Russian military actions was a warning to Azerbizian authorities not to pump the oil into the pipeline owned by British Petroleum via Georia and reaching Turkey. This is an act of stealing oil from Russia's caspian sea! Well done Russia...it's time to teach those 'thieves' a lesson! by the way Russia should sending troops to Poland and dismantling those NMD radars...they are threats to the world as well!
