Prostitutes have to pay six euros ($8.6) per night worked, regardless of how many customers they have.

I think the Tea Party in the U.S. is also in favor of this kind of "flat rate" tax.

Basically an honest box for tax payments, great idea they should be introduced for the general public to make their tax payments with too.

Income tax honest boxes - excellent idea. :))

    Not sure about germany.

But back home it is "semi-legal", street-walkers are a no-no but establishments offering those services are fine if done discreetly. Now all those ladies need to be registered and get bi-weekly medical checkups. Card needs to be shown first, etc.

There was a bit of a hubbub as how to tax them as they are not fully legal workers/profession, gov got around that and charges them entertainment taxes. LOL

Either way the meters are a joke and a bad idea by some brain-dead politician.

Great idea. Should be extended to tax drug dealers.

Good idea basically. But it should be based on time not a flat rate.

Those who oppose this are the type to go outside and try to stop the wind. Prostitutes have been with us since forever. Just deal with it.

    How bizarre.

I am for this, in Germany. But of course Germans need to think about how certain religious minorities will be outraged.

Certain religious minorities are already outraged about a lot of things in Germany, and other modern societies. Hook-o-meters for infidel prostitutes on some street in Bonn would rank pretty low on their list.

No. Actually, they don't. Religious people just need to mind their own darned business already lest they get a lesson on where their place is.

Lieberman@you need to work at cultivating a sense of humor. The word "flat" in this context means the horizontal position assumed by the persons paying the taxes. Now that I think about it some more, if you didn't catch it, maybe you need to work at your English comprehension as well.

@virtuoso. Actually most of the sex workers I witnessed (security film footage from a business I had in a dodgy place), the position was either standing against the wall or the worker kneeling/crouched down. Of maybe twenty encounters a night over a long period, I never saw and horizontal transactions.

@Asagao. Thanks for this enlightening bit of information. I never thought I would need to go to so much effort to explain/justify what was essentially a "quip."

@Oracle: True and on point. I wish some of the overly rightous would take a look in the Old Testament and the story of Lot in the city of Soddam-Gamorah. He lived there, but he didn't do what was going on becuase he knew what was right.

I am not going to say that there are some things that should not be legal, but it comes to a point where individuals no matter what they believe need to be accountable for themselves. If they believe prostitution is a sin, then don't do it. As long as those in the business are not going around kidnapping and forcing people into it, or forcing you to participate, then leave them alone. As long as they regulate, and get their health checks, I say leave them alone, and let them account for their actions when they meet their maker.

Not saying that the government should go out and promote this sort of thing, but make sure they abide by the laws.

"Leaflets in German and other languages have been handed out to inform the prostitutes of the new rule."

What were the other languages? I'm guessing Farsi was one of them. I've heard Europeans really like the Iranian women and girls who have fled the theocracy back home and made their way to Europe.

    What were the other languages?

I'm guessing Thai, Serbo-Croat, Romanian and Spanish.

Don't forget Tagalog, the "Language of Love."

You mean when mom n dad come round for dinner right ?

If only the streetwalkers could get together and find a way to enact legislation forcing the prostitutes in government to self-identify when they are in public, and be likewise taxed for the venalities they get up to.
