Nearly one million in a nation of, what, 80 million?

That's a lot to properly service, let alone aboorb.

"...[Germany] agreed that those deemed economic migrants—from countries not at war—would be sent home within three weeks."

Good move Germany.

Good to hear some logic worked its way back in.

Fair enough on the economic migrant thing- but can we really classify syrian people as economic migrants at all?

The one thing I want to say is good on Germany for opening its borders like this. It has saved nearly 1 million lives. I'd say they are well on their way for atoning for WW2.

Paying attention Japan? You could learn from this great country.

I'll believe it when I see it. Merkel's idiotic invitation to all and sundry will see several million arriving in Germany next year and every year after that until the Germans come to their senses.

The only way to stop the invasion is for all those arriving in Greece to be immediately shipped back to Turkey.

When word gets out that immigrants are accepted in substantial numbers they come in droves. US southern border is evidence of that.

Cue images of "migrants" being sent home in cattle trucks.

I am wondering how the Germans can repatriate those rejected asylum-seekers. Do the German goverment really think after risking their lives traveling thousands of kms to Germany, the migrants are willing to be send back?

There are thousands of refugees living in camps in various countries around Syria. If Germany really wants to help they can start taking in those 'processed refugees' in the first place.

Germany is doing the right thing but she is doing it the wrong way.

They are refugees/asymlum seekers, as such they are not meant to be repatriated. And they aren't migrants.

"I am wondering how the Germans can repatriate those rejected asylum-seekers"

The Germans have a history of very efficiently transporting and disposing of unwanted groups of people.

BERLIN — Germany said Thursday it would speed up the repatriation of rejected asylum-seekers as new figures showed the country inching closer to the million-migrant mark and EU forecasts showed even more people seeking refuge in Europe next year.

repatriation of rejected asylum-seekers

I missed the part about rejected.

"agreed that those deemed economic migrants—from countries not at war—would be sent home within three weeks." So what is to keep them from saying " I am from Syria and lost all of our identification when we were robbed along they way".....or some other excuse. Then give somebody else's name that they know from a country that is at war. It is a good move to send them back but this may be another can of worms trying to verify their claims. Well done and best of luck Germany.

" Angela Merkel and the leaders of two allied parties agreed that those deemed economic migrants—from countries not at war—would be sent home within three weeks. "

If you believe that, you can believe in the Easter Bunny. They can appeal the ruling endlessly, disappear in the country, or both. Merkel naively thinks that the rejected applicants will meekly wait three weeks and then turn up for their plane ride home. That is laughable. The invasion goes on, and on, and on.

It is excellent to see Germany doing something good like this. I think they are trying to make up for the fact that quit trying to extradite known Nazi war criminals from South America in the late 40's and throughout the 50's. They knew where they were but did nothing. This will mend that atrocity I believe. Good luck.

japan was and it the smartest country of them all.... you want to live in peace do it the japanese way.... mono culture!!

Germany stated they would take them, Germany can and will pay the price. Glad to see Denmark telling Sweden where to go on the comments. This entire thing is a mess. Frankly I would be sending back any working abled single men and taking children who are with their families. The last thing Europe needs is more men who see women as beneath them.

"the European Commission said the influx—far from being a drain on economies as some Europeans fear—could boost gross domestic product by 0.2 to 0.3 percent."

"assuring it could balance its 2016 budget despite spending billions more this year on migrant care."

So more refugees equals more government spending (of course), and Europe sees this as a GOOD thing? You can't make this stuff up people...

As soon as the first returned immigrant is somehow "hurt" or something bad happens, the press will be all over Germany and they will get blamed in this and the government will fold and let them back in. Keep in mind that back in 2014, when the US southern border was being flooded by children from Central America and there was a backlash, there was a very nice "show piece" act done by the wife of the President of Honduras, when she flew in an airplane to TX to pick up a planeload of children to bring them back to Honduras. Funny how that was the only plane trip that was done, the rest of the non-actors in that little skit got to stay in the USA and miss their court dates.

I expect the same to happen with this German plan. They will not be able to stand up to the public opinion pressure of people who think that they are rounding up people to be put on planes and trains to be deported. You will see a myriad of comparisons to the events of WW2 and the Nazis, and the Germans will bow to the public pressure and not do this.

Black Sabbath:

" Nearly one million in a nation of, what, 80 million? That's a lot to properly service, let alone aboorb. "

It is much, much more extreme than that. That "1 million" does not represent a societal cross-section, it consists almost exclusively of young men. Once accepted as refugees, they will quickly proceed to bring in their families in the framework of "familiy unification" which they have a right to. In case of Middle Eastern families, that can easily mean 10 people or more. So the "1 million" is only a tiny fraction of what Germany can expect. After a few more years of Merkelanian open door policy, Germany will be not anything comparable to the country you have now. Think Lebanon, think Kosovo.

Having absorbed 3 million Turks and integrated more than half, on top of integating our own people when losing over a third of German territory as the consequences of WW2, the current numbers do not seem overwelming jet.

Also as for Syrians and Afghanis, once there is a more peaceful environment in their home countries the exchange on the grassroot level will be valuable and enriching.

European Commission said the influx—far from being a drain on economies as some Europeans fear—could boost gross domestic product by 0.2 to 0.3 percent

If Germany's population increases by 1 million out of 80 million due to this invasion, that's a 1.25% increase. If GDP then only rises by 0.3% it means the average GDP per person is going down, i.e. the average German will be getting poorer.

And that 0.3% increase is when they are taking mostly able-bodied men. What happens when they bring in millions of dependants who the men will not allow to work due to their stone-age mindset?

Jandworld:

Germany already has a massive problem with non-integrated 2nd and 3rd generation Turks, so I would be careful citing that with a grain of salt. And internal German refugees are a different issue, since they come from the same culture.

" Also as for Syrians and Afghanis, once there is a more peaceful environment in their home countries the exchange on the grassroot level will be valuable and enriching. "

Yep, that is politically correct hope, but in reality this "exchange" consists mainly of welfare costs, creeping Shariah and hate-preaching radical imams. Not different from other European countries with the same issue.

Merkel should be arrested and forced to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Mental illness is the only logical explanation for this insanity. Poor Germany.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Marie nice sentiments, but not sure that the crux of this issue is about gender or sexism

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I think tmarie is right on with her comment. Merkel is hell bent on Islamizing Germany and as much of Europe as she can influence. Islam is not exactly known for its tolerance and gender equality.

Holy rhetoric batman!

Jandworld , yeah that has been the experience of Sweden, Denmark, Belgium etc. Rapes and violence have skyrocketed.Very " enriching".

I see 4th generation Turks working in cinema "Soul Kitchen", as main actors in "Tatort;, there are also TV science presentors of Indian forefathers

So Europe is the new "new world" or safe world so far.
